Marin threw a delightful, Gabbaland-worthy party for Gus: Our son, Gus, absolutely loves Yo Gabba Gabba and chose that as his birthday theme. I wanted the party to be colorful and whimsical, focusing on the things that make Yo Gabba Gabba so great in the first place. Simplicity, joy, color, music, food and friends.

To decorate, my husband and I drew lots of eyes and smiles and attached them to objects around the house like the mirror, TV, etc. I found colorful paper lanterns at Michaels for $1 each and put faces on those as well and hung them over the food table. A good friend of ours made some felt flags with the Gabba characters on them which we hung over the fireplace. That was really it...so simple and easy.

We had one game which was 'Pin the Eye on Muno'. My husband simply made a Muno out of poster board and a bunch of eyeballs and each kiddo got to give it a shot. We gave everyone a bottle of bubbles for participating instead of a prize for the winner since the kids are still quite young.

The food was simple, just sandwich fixings, veggies, fruit and chips. We invited everyone to have a "party in their tummy" like Brobee. We also asked that people bring canned food instead of gifts so that we could donate the food to our local food bank and give everyone a chance to have a party in their tummies. My friend Annie made a Muno cake which was adorable and a hit with the kids.

I knew I wanted to have a seed planting project since Foofa loves flowers and Target just happened to have green and pink flower pots in their dollar bins. I painted Brobee and Foofa faces on them, stuffed them with a baggie of potting soil & some flower seeds and let each child choose one.

Obviously Yo Gabba Gabba is all about the music, so we also made a CD of Gus' favorite songs and gave a copy to each family to take home.

This was Gus' first real birthday party and he had a wonderful time. There are a few photos up on our family blog.

Thanks Marin!

We love a good party! We just put together a new "My Party" Submission Form. If you'd like to share the good ideas and photos from your child's celebration with the Ohdeedoh community please submit through the form found right here.
