Julian and his friends had a blast at his history-filled party. And we're guessing there was a lot less clean up for mom Debra. She tells us all about the fun day: My son celebrated his birthday at Historic Fort York in Toronto. All I have to say is that this party theme is a surefire hit with 7 year old boys. I usually do parties in our backyard. It's the first time I have ventured off site for a party. I can definitely see the advantages!
The boys arrived at Fort York and were assigned a Historic Guide named Eric for the duration of the party. He proceeded to give the boys a tour of the Fort. Highlights included "Drill Training", learning to march, a mock "charge!" on the hills, and free run of the beautiful grounds.
After, we refueled with cold drinks, snacks and cupcakes all they wanted to do was head outside to explore the Fort and play.
The favor bags were fun to put together. The boys got a replica pop gun, war of 1812 era soldier toy, and a "candy ration". I packaged them in a cotton muslin bag to which I added the image of a Union Jack.
The invitations were antique reproductions of a postcard with the party details printed separately and toed together with bakers twine.
The decor was minimal to go with the overall esthetic of the era. Simple mason jars with flags lined the table. Red replica toy soldiers stood at attention at each place setting.
I highly recommend Fort York as a birthday party destination. It was the perfect mix of fun and education in a stunning location. My son declared it the best birthday party ever!
Thanks Debra, you can't argue with that!

Shaw's Original Fir...
This is such a great idea! It seems perfect for kids that age. I love the mock charging of the hill...
Who did you contact about renting the space at Fort York? I would not have thought to have a birthday party at Fork York, I love it!
Thanks Mrssewbot - Just go to the City of Toronto website and look for historic sites or contact Fort York directly. Many of the historic sites offer birthday parties :)
This is so awesome! My mom tells many stories of exploring Fort Mackinac in Michigan as a child, she loved it.
Anyone know of a similar kind of place near San Francisco???
this is great - planning a similar party for my oldest son. could you tell me how did do or find the loot bag and the union flag?
