My Party: Little Man

Richmond, VA

CJ's flip remark years ago came back to haunt her, but she rose to the occasion with this unique first birthday party: Several years ago I showed my husband a photo of a friend's Redskins party for his son, and he loved it. As a non-football fan, I joked that, sure, I would do a Redskins party if I ever had a son born in the Fall. Lo and behold I had a son born in the Fall, and I had to live up to my promise. After wrestling with the theme for a while, the final outcome was a tailgate party.

This ended up being one of the easiest parties to put together. I "borrowed" three pick-up trucks in the family to use as the food stations. Some of my favorite handmade details are the birthday party hat for my son (just scrapbook paper and felt with an elastic band) and the fabric banners that I hung on each truck.

I used hay bales to create levels in the food presentation, threw down an assortment of blankets from our house, added seasonal flowers, and finished off with a few toy footballs. The real fun was in the food... "football" deviled eggs, grilled sausages and sliders, s'more marshmallow pops, dark beer chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel icing.

Thanks CJ! Readers, take an afternoon tea break and visit CJ at Pink Tea.

We love a good party! We just put together a new "My Party" Submission Form. If you'd like to share the good ideas and photos from your child's celebration with the Ohdeedoh community please submit through the form found right here.
