Choosing a theme for a baby's first party can be as simple as asking yourself, "what do they like?" Natalie did just this for her son's lovely party: For Toby's first birthday party, I was inspired by one of his favourite activities - blowing bubbles.

The theme colours were red, orange and turquoise. Since the party was outside, I decorated our backyard plum tree with paper lanterns (reused from my baby shower last summer) and garlands made of cardstock circles and fishing line. Favours were bottles of bubbles with custom wrappers made by me, my best friend, and my father-in-law.

I made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate cream cheese frosting; some of the cupcakes were left as is, while others were decorated with sprinkles in the theme colours. I also made circle cupcake toppers with his (real) initial on one side and the number 1 on the other.

Thanks Natalie!
