Mushrooms have never been cuter than at Wayland's birthday gathering. Her mom Amy crafted everything beautifully: Our favorite time of year is the fall, so what better time for our favorite girl to be celebrating her 2nd birthday! With the golden leaves filling the yard and bright colorful mushrooms of all shapes and sizes popping up everywhere, I knew her party had to be mushroomed themed.

INVITES: I found this great tutorial on toadstool invites online, but knew I wanted to add a few extra embellishments. I purchased the desired colors and textures of scrap-booking paper along with a piece of felt paper with adhesive back so the spots on the mushroom would have some fun texture. The bumblebee and lady bug brads were purchased at joanns.com. I hand-stamped the inside with her birthday greeting and party details and then finally added some grass I found in the scrap-booking sticker section of my local craft store.

CAKE: I searched high and low for pictures of the perfect cake knowing that I wanted to make it myself. I found her cake here and then just added a few special touches of my own. I used good old fashioned icing so that the cake would be tastier than a completely fondant cake. All decorations and accessories were made using fondant. I had never worked with fondant before and was so surprised at how easy and inexpensive the whole process was. Needless to say, we won't be paying anyone to make our cakes from here on out!

BIRTHDAY BANNER: I love to make Wayland and her cousins all sorts of fun handmade skirts and accessories, like the skirt pictured here. I was able to use some scrap polka dot material to create her banner. I cut them to the desired size and shape and then sewed a little hem on the top to thread the hemp string through for hanging. I then found a free font online and used iron on transfer paper to affix the letters.

MUSHROOM COOKIES: I also made some of my Grandma's sugar cookies using a mushroom shaped cookie cutter I found on Etsy. Then I used a powdered sugar icing for the decor on top.

We love how everything all came together while infusing our love of nature, bright colors, and all things homemade or handmade!

Thanks Amy!
