My Party: Zach

Santa Barbara, CA

Zach had his own exciting way of celebrating his first birthday. His mom Kate describes it and the party: Zach loves the outdoors, so we celebrated his first birthday in my parents' spacious front yard. I made all the decorations myself (tissue poms poms, bird tree, birthday banner, cupcake toppers, picture display, thumb print tree, birthday shirts and crown) and stuck to a palette of blues and greens.

Zach wore an owl inspired birthday onesie. Later, he changed into the "let them eat cake" shirt to eat his zucchini muffin with cream cheese frosting. His birthday crown, though super fun to make, served as mere decoration for the high chair, due to his tendency to pull off hats after .2 seconds. The guests were mostly adults from both sides of the family with a few very close friends from the area.

Zach provided the entertainment - the highlight being that he took his first steps for all to witness. We couldn't have planned it any better! The party was after lunch time, so we served light snacks - cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, pita chips and hummus, strawberries and grapes, cream puffs from Costco, and of course, cupcakes. We asked that the guests not bring presents, which worked out perfectly. Zach was content to play in a box from Costco and the beat-up Little Tikes car that my mom rescued from a neighborhood family's give-away pile.

Thanks Kate!

We love a good party! We just put together a new "My Party" Submission Form. If you'd like to share the good ideas and photos from your child's celebration with the Ohdeedoh community please submit through the form found right here.
