A Soft, Serene Nursery for Baby

My Room

Name: Baby "R"
Location: Bellevue, Washington

I really enjoyed designing this nursery for my third child, using mostly items we already had, lots of DIY and thrift store finds. I knew I didn't want a specific theme, just a simple, modern and calming space that could grow with the child.

Since I had to work with the existing dark espresso crib and dresser I chose a soft gray for the accent wall. To lighten up and modernize the dresser I decided to paint the drawer fronts with flat white paint. The artwork above the crib is a collection of Martha Stewart alphabet cards that were copied onto tissue paper and modge podged onto canvas - talk about a labor of love! The lovely quilt was handmade by my mother. The floating night stand was a thrift store find, painted white and gray with leftover wall paint. The canvas above the shelf was also painted gray with twine wrapped around it to showcase some of the sweet cards and notes from the baby shower.

I made the mobile with a white branch, clear string and origami cranes made with leftover Japanese washi paper from our wedding. The five cranes symbolize our new family of five! This was a bitter sweet project since I knew this would be the last nursery I would be designing!
