If you're going to depart a bit from your usual style, a child's room is a great place to experiment. Melissa shares: We knew from the start that we wanted a gender-neutral room that was bright, playful and modern. The room ended up being exactly what we wanted - bright, cheerful and a little more whimsical than the rest of our modern condo.
We had some pieces we wanted to work in, specifically the sideboard/changing table. We purchased it a few years ago with baby in mind and used it as a basis for our color scheme - blue and white with brightly colored accents. (It's from Home Design Store) in Miami.
We also had an old chest that needed refinishing. We painted it white and it makes a perfect window seat/toy chest. The rocking chair was my mom's and she used it to rock my brother and me. Because it has sentimental value and because it was in great shape, we didn't mess with it.
For furniture, all we really had to worry about was the crib. I knew I wanted something environmentally friendly, and the Oeuf Sparrow just seemed to fit the bill - simple, stylish and not made in China.
We picked up the Lusy Blom carpet and matching throw pillows from Ikea and the Skip Hop Mod Dot bedding on Gilt for half the price. I bought the yellow mosaic coat hanger in Barcelona 10 years ago and the Picasso-looking handkerchief had been hanging in my parents house for 20 years. I love how they add bright pops of color to the walls.
The owl prints were downloaded from Ooh Moon and printed on Canvas Pop. They might just be my favorite part of the room! I splurged on the tree and owl decal from DwellStudio and found the cloud decals on Etsy. The Hot Air Balloon mobile is from Flensted and purchased on Amazon.
Thanks Melissa!

If that chest is an antique, I hope you checked for lead paint. It looks like the kind of paint that is lead (peels like alligator skin). I had quite a few pieces of furniture like that it my house that I loved, and my son had elevated lead readings, even though I was so careful. It only takes one little chip of paint for them to eat and be poisoned.
Such a cute room! I adore the owl prints-they are my favorite part of the room, too!
What a wonderful room!
Aw! My mom used to rock me in a bentwood rocker! I love the room, beautiful!
@carabrob - The chest isn't an antique, it just looks like that. It actually has a veneer so the paint isn't peely.
Thanks everyone!
The rug is wonderful. Do you remember where it came from?
Love, love, love the changer/dresser. Mixing modern and vintage is such a great look.
The rug is an Ikea one. I almost bought it a month ago, but was worried I wouldn't like it when I got home. It looks so cute in there I may have to just do it.

I just wanted to say that most unusual names you hear are hard to swallow, but ainslie is really gorgeous and caught me totally off guard. Lovely, unique name- lucky girl!
Great room! I love the sky blue walls and I am in love right now with the mod dot bedding from Skip Hop. I love cute owls as well and plan on featuring them in the nursery. I also love the name Ainslie.
That sideboard/changing table is AMAZING - it just makes the room. I never would have thought to pair it with modern furniture like the crib, but it just works. Great nursery!
So cute! I have a bentwood rocker and sparrow crib too - I love mixing vintage and modern this way. And as others have noted, Ainslie is an adorable name.
Beautiful Nursery! This Birdhouse Lamp would look perfect with your tree decal.
Beautiful room. I love the dresser and the bright colors. Well done!
Your nursery is so bright and charming. Very nice. I especially love your paint color and the lamp in the corner. Do you know the brand and name for both?
I love the polka dot crib sheets and the rug is so cute! I would personally choose different nursery wall decals But other than that, beautiful job!
