We love a classic, but even more so we love updates of a classic which is just what Jessica has done with the sock monkey in this beautiful "retro modern" room: My husband and I are both quirky individuals with an appreciation for unique decoration that speaks to who we are as a couple. We live in an older neighborhood where each home has a character all its own. Therefore, it just didn't seem right to go to the baby superstore and fill the nursery with everything modern and brand new. We wanted to create a fun and relaxing space for our baby boy that would blend our vintage tendencies with a more modern flare.
This space was inspired by a simple sock monkey - a classic toy that I remember having as a child and is still relevant today. I loved the brown/white/red colors together and how they naturally lent themselves to a retro vibe. The room was already a robin's egg blue so it just came together.
We didn't want to overdo the sock monkey theme so we incorporated other fabrics and textures that kept with the playfulness, retro vibe and color scheme. I looked to Etsy for prints and scoured flea markets for furniture to add a personal touch whenever possible.
In the instances that I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, I simply whipped out the old sewing machine and made it! The crib quilt, matching pillow and ottoman and book slings are all handmade. It was fun doing projects that kept me occupied in those middle months of pregnancy and it made me feel closer to our baby boy. We are SO excited to meet him and see this room grow and evolve with him.

Commercial Flour Sa...
This is gorgeous, and has to be the best sock monkey-inspired nursery I've seen. Well done!!
This looks great! Coincidentally, I was just eying that exact same rug on Overstock today. It's on sale for $150, but I was curious how it would look in a room. Now I know! It's gorgeous.
Does anyone know where the monster print is from? It looks like something from Etsy but I can't find it.
Wonderful room! I was going to do a sock monkey themed room if we ended up with a boy. I'll definitely save this in case I need inspiration later :)
Beautiful! Love the sock monkey everything! And that rug is absolutely perfect.
I have those wallflowers in my little girl's nursery :)
Lovely. I must ask what color is the blue paint?
Is a Baby Keg anything like a Pony Keg?
I'm kidding...
Love the Sock Monkey portrait with glasses, and great job painting the dresser.
The monster print was ordered online from here >> http://www.invisiblecreature.com/#/shop/all/shake-a-leg-large
I'll check on the paint color and post later this evening.
love the colours, so warm!
Adorable! Can I ask where you got the wall flowers above the crib?
love it! when i decide to have a baby i will take the inspiration from here love monkey!!
WiscoRunner: I'm fairly certain the flowers above the crib are from Urban Outfitters.

I love the light blue with the punch of red. Wonderful space!
I think this room is so sweet and peaceful. Great job! That rug is perfect for the room! I've made the book slings for my kids' rooms and they are soo nice. The flowers are also available at Target; I think they are Umbra? brand. They make a few other wall things as well :)
What is the name/brand of the rug? It's great!
This looks like the same rug:
