Calvin's charming room may be small, but he has everything he needs. Karen shares: Calvin's room is TINY. It's about 8'x9' (on a good day), but I'm very thankful that we're working with tall ceilings - I'm always looking for ways to play the height and trick the eye into thinking the walls are long.
His room is on its third paint color combo (and Calvin is 2 1/2), but I think this one will stick for awhile. We are constantly adding new things and taking away the old as he grows up and his interests change. His current obsession is reading, so I've been concentrating on creating the reading area.
I'm admittedly pretty cheap, and because we're changing up his room I refuse to spend a lot on anything! We recently added the vinyl wall decals (from Etsy, $24), and the small book racks under the window are the Ikea spice racks ($3.99 each). I love using books as decor, and to help encourage his imagination, I handmade a costume for Calvin from one of my favorite children's books: Max from Where the Wild Things Are.
The crib is about to be converted into a daybed, so the next project will involve some bedding updates. Looking forward to it!
Thanks Karen!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Super cute! Love the decals on the wall. Where is the crib from? I love how it's not super traditional or super modern but in between.
Awesome idea with the spice racks!
That spice rack idea is inspired. You did a great job of pulling of a car room without going overboard. I'd love to know more about that car chair.
Love the paper airplane decals. Wish I had seen the idea to use spice racks before I went to Ikea yesterday.
Cute room all around.
I love the airplane decals too. Great use of space for a tiny room! You've made it look bright and airy!
Aw, thanks for the kind words!
Calvin's crib is the Munire Urban lifetime crib, and the car beanbag chair is from Target.
I wish I could take credit for the spice rack bookshelf idea, but I saw it right here on Ohdeedoh last month! I actually painted them white over the weekend.
Karen, what are the paint colors? I love that!
I love this space!
The bookshelf will look good white, although I like them natural as well.
I always wanted to do a Max costume for Halloween! And have my older son be a "wild thing." What a cute idea!! Love the room : )
I love the color combo.
oh my god... the size and layout of this room looks almost exactly like my son's room. (only your window is much prettier. ours is high, and awkwardly positioned on the right side of the wall). We even have a nook next to the closet, like yours, only it has an old built-in desk that we can't decide whether we want to take out or refinish.
So anyway, now I'm embarrassed because I really thought I would never be able to turn his room into something functional and beautiful because of the small size and somewhat cramped layout. My son is 18 months old, and this post is going to serve as my main inspiration when he moves into his new room (which will hopefully be really soon).
Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful and inspiring room. Your son is so lucky to have such an imaginative momma.
The blue is Benjamin Moore 676 ("spirit in the sky"), and the beige is... I have no idea. The majority of our walls were painted that color by the builder and we had a little left over, but there's no color info on it. So sorry!
Thanks everyone!
