Name: Carter John
Location: Edmonton, Alberta Canada
With Carter being our second child, I felt less inclined to spend a fortune, and more inclined to find ways to create a beautiful space on a budget. I wanted to keep the major pieces neutral and accent the room with colours and childlike details.
I was inspired by photos of my husband and I throughout our childhoods - Raggedy Andy, Curious George, Little Golden Books, Pinwheels etc - vintage 70's and 80's styles. I scoured the web for inspiration, and delighted in crafting most of the art elements in this room, by hand. I bought most of the furniture secondhand, and used the glider I bought for Carter's big brother's nursery (splurge).
My favourite part of the space is the little reading/play area I've created for my first son. The boys are only 18 months apart, so it was really important to me that Jack felt like a part of the new baby's life and space.
I tackled several DIY projects in Carter's room. I wanted two-toned dressers to match the crib, but wasn't willing to shell out Carter's education fund. I got two Ikea Malm dressers (secondhand!) and covered the drawer fronts using walnut print contact paper. It was super easy to do, and looks very convincing. For the ottoman, I bought one secondhand for $10 and made a slipcover out of a coordinating fabric I found on clearance. I also made the mobile from a purchased photomobile kit by making paper spheres from scrapbook paper and brads.
Furniture:
• Glider: EQ3 Karbon (pulled from big brother's nursery)
• Crib: Status Mod (from IKEA - only "new" piece in the room)
• Dressers/Shelves: IKEA Malm (2nd hand off Kijijii)
Thanks Misty!

I love the crib, we must not get that one at Ikea in US!!!
Alaichoy -- that crib is very similar to a model that was one of the Dwell Studio for Target designs from a year or two ago. You could probably hunt one down online if you're interested!
Actually there is a mistake there! The crib is by a company called Status Mod. The dressers are Ikea
Love the room! I've been looking for that crib. Found the same in a white/honey at walmart but can't find the white/espresso color. Where did you find that one and how long ago?? Thanks. :)
