Just because your child is a co-sleeper doesn't mean he or she doesn't deserve an attractive place to play and read. Clarity agrees: We rent a turn of the century farmhouse on Fidalgo Island in Northwest WA. Although Caspian still spends most nights in our room, I wanted him to have a bright, charming space to call his own.

The studio for my plush business (Friends of Socktopus) is upstairs as well, so he can play and I can work at the same time. He is three years old, so naturally this room looks like a hurricane hit it most of the time. The sweet toddler bed was built by some friends, and the cloud fabric panels on the ceiling were painted by another friend. I made the quilt on his bed while he was in utero. Nothing in this room was bought new, except for the seahorse lamp from Ikea. Caspian and I are champion thrift shoppers.
