We highlight so many nurseries here on Ohdeedoh but we're just as excited about what happens to these rooms down the road as babies become toddlers and toddlers become kids. Cassie's son, Jackson, wanted a more grown up room and boy did Cassie deliver: My son turned 9 this summer and instantly declared his room, "Too baby!" So while he visited grandparents out of town for two weeks, we did a surprise room makeover.
We packed up all the sentimental baby stuff, then painted every square inch of his room and most of the furniture. I saved money by making drapes from drop cloths, recovered old corkboards with burlap and maps, covered soup cans for cute pencil holders, and created art for a gallery wall by using our own prints from visiting animal parks. I scoured sales and discount stores and found the remaining items at Ikea and Home Goods.
The best part of the makeover (besides his reaction), was that the total cost came to under $300!
Thanks Cassie - his smile says it all! Readers, would you like to see more photos of this room? Visit Cassie at Hi Sugarplum to see and read more.

love it!!
question: is the bed a converted crib? i ask because i think we have the same crib, and i've wondered if it was worth getting the rail conversion
great room. love the stripes!
I love all the bold colors and lines!
@ happybirthday:
That bed is full sized! If it was converted from a crib, then that was a HUGE crib!
(FYI-cribs do not convert into full sized or queen beds.)
Nice job!
@burnttoast: actually I think most cribs convert to full beds... the two sides become the head and footboards.
