One of Sara's favorite things about her daughter's nursery became too popular for her taste so she reinvented the room to fit her and her daughter better. She shares: Before my daughter Charlie was born, my mom and I created a sweet modern nursery for her. The main focus - the ubiquitous tissue pom lantern thing - was inspired by a post on Ohdeedoh, and I originally loved it. As time went on, though, the tissue pompom thing I created started to make me crazy - I was seeing it EVERYWHERE! I wanted a change by the time she was three months old. ;)
The desire to give her a room makeover was already there...but by the time Charlie was 6 months, her little personality became very apparent - and she was NOT girly. This is a very adventurous little girl, and I wanted to create a "big girl room" for her that reflected her personality and was a bit more fun.
I'm a huge fan of IKEA (we live 5 minutes from one!), and the room was actually inspired by a very cheap rug I found there (no longer for sale). I always wanted a rug like that when I was little, and now I'm living vicariously through Charlie. ;)
Over time, the perfect theme came to mind - a city. And when I decided to create a little reading nook for her, I came up with the idea to create a park-themed reading area in a modern city. The hot air balloons are made by Travels Light, and were a gift from my friend Reichel over at Copy Cat Chic (she bought them for her daughter's gorgeous nursery and didn't end up using them!). I think they look perfect above Charlie's crib, and have the added benefit of being earthquake safe (we live practically on top of the Hayward Fault - don't remind me!).
The little reading nook is one of my favorite parts. I love the LOVA leaf canopies from IKEA, and I've been surprised that more people on Ohdeedoh aren't using them in their kids' rooms! Sitting under them makes you feel like you're in a secret spot - they're awesome!
Underneath, she has "grass" (two little rugs, also from IKEA) and a cushy place to hang out. My mom made the big gumdrop pillows, and I made the animal pillows (I'm an illustrator, and they're from my drawings). Because I wanted everything within her reach, I used the spice racks I see on Ohdeedoh practically every day (for good reason!).
Over her changing area are two wooden biplanes with a special purpose. I am super proud of this idea - it was a stroke of genius in the dead of the night. ;) I needed a place to hang her barrettes - so I created little banners for these planes (thick floral wire inside white ribbon), and clipped her barrettes on them.
The shelves on the wall are RIBBA photo shelves (from IKEA, of course). Behind them, I painted clouds directly on the wall (I was inspired by shelves I saw on Ohdeedoh, but wanted something a little more handmade looking).
Her original nursery included a lot of artwork, and I was sad that a photo wall didn't exactly fit in with the new theme. There were a couple of pieces of artwork that I really wanted to display, though, so I put them on the shelves - like the Wish Tree print (one of the items from my shop), which my husband and I filled out for her and means a lot to us.
And of course, the super helpful IKEA Expedit, outfitted with everything a girl could possibly need.
Thanks Sara! Readers, see more of Charlie's nursery on Sara's blog, Stinkerpants. Curious about the first iteration of the nursery? See it here.

I really love this! Well done!
The barrette airplanes are ingenious! Great job mom :)
Best thing about this room... the BabySmart Cooshee changer. I don't know why everyone doesn't have one of these. By far one of the best baby products I invested in and they look great, too. I also have 3 Travels Light balloons in my nursery to tie in with the theme that was inspired by an IKEA bedspread (great minds, right?). They are beautiful, sophisticated but still fun. And I'm totally jealous of your wall of shelves. Nice job!
I do still love the *classic* POM thing but those planes are pretty great..
I love the mural and the reading corner. Perfect.
Thanks so much, everyone!
And I totally agree, crackerjack - that Cooshee changer is the most amazing thing EVER. It's my go-to gift for baby showers!
Love the tree art. It looks like a "family tree". Did you make or buy it?
One of the cutest nurseries I've ever seen on here! Love it!
I love this nursery. It's full of cute little attentions to detail. Charlie Sue is going to be happy here!
@wseattlemom - it's a "wish tree." I made it, but it's an item in my shop. :) My husband and I filled out all of our wishes for our children ("listen to your mom" is a good one, haha).
Thank you so much, @bohemianbeauty! That's a huge compliment!
This really is gorgeous, love the airplanes, the reading nook, the cloud shelves and, of course, the tree print! Well done :) Saved to my inspiration file...
I so very much LOVE the reading nook - great idea!
I thought I was "up" on all cool baby gear but the Cooshee changer slipped me by! I NEED that!!!!
Great job!!! What is the paint color??
