Grey never looked so good. Paola tells us about this fun, colorful, zig-zaggy room: As first time parents, my husband Eric and I spent the entire pregnancy creating the perfect space for our new addition! We wanted something cheerful and modern.....something that felt fun, with touches of whimsy that didn't necessarily scream BABY. It needed to be a bit mod, so as to fit in with the rest of our interior design in our home.
The first challenge was finding the right color combination. We were looking for something bright and unique....anything but the pastel baby pink that would be so very expected. I knew I wanted a charcoal grey as part of the combo, so that narrowed it down a tad. We found a fabric by Cloud 9 that was the perfect fit....aqua, coral, grey and white, and that became the inspiration for the rest of the nursery.
I showed my husband a picture of the chevron wall that I really wanted as the backdrop to the crib, and bless his heart for appeasing a very pregnant lady and agreeing to paint the wall to match. He painstakingly taped off that entire wall (twice!) to paint it the perfect charcoal chevron print.
Once we got the crib bedding made.....we were off to DIY or shop on Etsy for the rest of our accents, since we found this color combo nearly impossible to find in stores. We made sure that we used the same Behr paint for every project (even requested it from the Etsy sellers that did our custom work), so that the room felt cohesive. Three of my favorite Etsy purchases were our owl wall clock (yes, that owl really does tell time!), the abacus, and the whale tissue holder.
We also took on a couple of DIY projects. One was that cornice above the window, which we made in the same Cloud 9 fabric as the bedskirt. Another was the "Baby Love" pillow that we threw on the glider. We also painted all of the storage boxes that we put in the bookcases to match the rest of the room.
We love how it all turned out!

i love this room-the chevron wall looks like high quality wallpaper. this room will grow with the child with very little changes.
gee-i would love this room as a living room.
great job! great vision!...
Wow! What a fantastic room. I love everything about it! The showstoppers have to be the Chevron stripe wall and that great crib! I wish they made a wallpaper like the chevron stripe in your nursery - I don't think my husband (or I) would have the patience to tape off that pattern. Good for you guys!
How fun! Congrats on your new addition. May your memories make this room even sweeter!
Very cool. I've been trying to figure out how best to paint dark grey into my twin girls' room (in addition to pink - their request...they are 4 years old, after all), and was also thinking of using aqua as an accent. This room has given me some great ideas!
this one of my favorite kids rooms I've seen in a long while! love all of it!
WOW your husband painted that chevron wall for you? You found a winner!
I'm considering throwing out the rest of my birth control pills just so I can get started on something like this. DO WANT.
I agree- that chevron wall is awesome!
The colors really worked so well together. Great job!
Incredible wall, kudos to your husband. He did an amazing job, it looks so professional. I love the colour scheme too, it is so nice to see a room for a baby that is going to outlive the very fast baby stage and is something to grow into.
This is an exquisite baby room! I'm sure you'll spend many happy times here!

Is there a tutorial for how to paint that chevron pattern? I guessing you need 1000 gallons of patience! I see the basic concept for taping but what measurements did you use?
Ditto. Would love a DIY tutorial on this.
