The unexpected color combination in Gabriel's nursery just works! Vanessa tells us more about his sweet room: When we found out we were having a boy I was thrilled to dive in and start designing his nursery. The inspiration for the color scheme in the room came from the Michael Miller Zoology fabric I used to make the crib skirt. It was perfect: boyish, yet definitely not your average theme.
Three of the four walls are painted a khaki color, while the main accent wall is an electric lime green. The rest of the accents are black, red and brown. Somehow, all those colors seem to work well together.
We purchased the crib set on Craigslist for a song, and the other bedroom furniture was my husband's childhood set. I just freshened it up with a coat of black paint. The bookshelf from Ikea we also had around the house, and it happens to match the crib set fairly well. The rocking chair is new from Ikea and was a gift from my parents.
In addition to all the crib bedding, many of the accessories in the room I made myself. The elephant mobile is based on the Olephant mobile by Flensted. The silhouette pictures are cutouts of my husband and I on colorful scrapbook paper. I made simple valence curtains from some remnant graphic fabric from JoAnn.
The big splurge in the room was the FLOR tile area rug, but I think it "really ties the room together"!
Thanks Vanessa! You can see more of Gabriel's room here.
