Karen's daughter was at a transitional age: ready for a less babyish room and ready with her own opinions! Karen tells us more: This is the third metamorphosis of a little 9' x 10' room as Georgia sprouted from nursery to toddler room to now "big girl room". The small space was always a challenge and although corner windows add character they also make the layout even tougher. This was the first version that our daughter had opinions about ... strong opinions.
She insisted on bunkbeds, but at only four years old we were not ready for that leap, nor did the room have space. So after searching and searching, we settled on an old favorite at IKEA, the Kura bed.
What she really wanted was the climb and what we really wanted was useful space. We both won with this mid-height loft. Her toddler bed, by P'kolino that we purchased from Oompa.com, coverted into a chair and we hung some colorful paper lanterns with LED lights from Pier One above. The stars hanging from fishing line on the ceiling are a leftover feature from the original nursery design that we just couldn't part with. We accessorized the room with more IKEA favorites like Lusy Blom rug, PS Lomsk swivel chair, Skojig wall lamp, and Jonisk floor lamp (mood lighting under the loft). The finishing touch was to personalize the room with family pictures and art created by the inhabitant and her friends.

Details on the stars, please!
The stars are Christmas ornaments from Cost Plus World Market. Our house is 75 yrs old with plaster ceilings so we had to drill individual holes and screw in tiny eye hooks ... Over 70 of them! Then we tied strong, clear fishing line to hang each star at staggered lengths. It became a tradition from the day we brought her home to "twinkle" the stars by spinning a few before we left the room each night.
Where is that chair from? I have never seen it before.
The chair is from P'kolino. I converts to/from a toddler bed. We purchased it at Oompa.
I love this room, thank you so much for posting it. I've actually had my eye on the KURA bed for a 10x10 room also and since we don't have an IKEA close enough to check it out, I was wondering how low it was, but now that I see the MALM dresser by it, which we have, it helps tremendously!! Love the use of color, well done.
