My Room: Maelle

Ottawa, Canada

Grown up but not too grown up. Giulia tells us about her preschooler's lovely room update: My daughter is four now and really wanted to change up her room. She requested purple and some additional bright colours. We wanted the room to be bright and cheerful, but allow enough flexibility to change things out and make it more grown up down the road.

We chose a deep purple (BM darkest grape) as an accent wall. We moved her white metal bed in front of the accent wall as well as the white vintage dresser that we had just painted and restored. The sheets pick up the purple but also introduce pink, greys, orange and green. The pale pink was maintained on main walls and a fun pink polka dot curtain was added. We introduced a dresser with an orange drawer front and kept her vintage green chair.

Art was hung salon style for interest and flexibility. The bookcase was a DIY project based on a Martha Stewart template. The name art above her bed captures the colours introduced in the room and is a DIY project.

The style is eclectic, adding old with new. Particularly her bookcase and art wall include some items dear to my family - old books and pieces given to us. The cushion on her chair was made by my grandmother for my mother.

Thank you Giulia! Readers, find Giulia at Fishly News.
