We love the way the sunny yellow plays off the more serious black and white in Maya's room. Jennifer shares: We completed most of Maya's room while pregnant, and we kept the sex a surprise, so her room started out gender neutral with a black, white, yellow theme. After she was born, we added more feminine elements - the rug, wall art, things I had lying around in addition to her toys and gifts of course.
Our apartment is an open loft, and our bedroom and her nursery are upstairs in a shared open space, so we wanted her room to not be totally out of place with the rest of our apartment. Her wall is the only painted wall in our place - we thought yellow would be a bright and happy accent color for our baby's space as well as help define it from the rest of our apartment, that and I love black, white and yellow.
My favorite element is definitely her mobile - it was a labour of love! I first saw it here on Ohdeedoh and knew that I would make one for my baby. I started it when I was five months pregnant and finally finished it when she was 4 months old! I also like how the art on her walls turned out, I did a lot of searching before I finally determined what to hang - it's a mix of things found online (le Train Fantome, Creative Thursday, Fifi Lapin), a local store (The Cross Design), and the flowers which I had lying around for ages and finally had a reason and color to paint them. We also love sitting in the glider (a generous gift from my parents) and reading - a bunch of the books were actually mine when I was little. I was worried that black might be a bit ominous for a baby's room, but I think it's ended up a cosy and playful little space where we enjoy hanging out, that will also grow with her.
