We're so glad that Sarah shared the photos and story behind Ellie's new room with us! She writes: Ellie's big girl room was a surprise for her 3rd birthday. She slept in a crib for three whole years (!), and it was high time we update her nursery. I wanted to reuse as many things as possible in her room while updating it to a more vintage/whimsical feel from the green & purple color scheme we came up with while I was pregnant with her. The budget for new items was teensy.
I was inspired by rooms (many I found on this blog!) with neutral paint on the walls and pops of color by way of accessories, bedding, toys, art, etc. I didn't want stark white though, so I set out to find a very, very pale yellow.
We painted with Sherwin Williams' low-VOC paint (the only splurge) in "paper lantern" and received the quilt (from Land of Nod) as a gift from Ellie's "Mamo." The bed and dresser were hand-me-downs from my mom; they were my sister Laura's when we lived at home.
Most everything else is handmade, from (the great and wonderful) Ikea, or from a smattering of excellent Etsy shops (dazeychic, goosegrease, janssendesigns, YeeHaw, sarahjanestudios, vintagejane, woodmouse).
Thanks, Sarah and Ellie! (More photos are available on Sarah's blog)
