Lisa put her personal stamp on her baby's charming nursery as well as a lot of hard work. She shares: Made with love, this small room is an eclectic collection of goodies from new finds, to upcycled, to handmade and vintage loves. I was inspired by my Aunty's quilt in the room and lots of the other fabulous nurseries on Ohdeedoh. It has always been a work in progress just as the rest of my house is.
I have never been one to have a favourite of anything (colour, movie, song etc) so I would imagine that this room will be ever evolving too. I think that is the way designing and decorating should be otherwise your style becomes tired and outdated. I love birds and before I knew this became the loose theme of this room. I always knew I wanted a grey coloured room with hits of yellow, red and white and if I was pregnant with a girl, I would add pink.
The room being a small space and lacking useful corners, at times was challenging to work with. The walls have been painted in a subtle warm grey and the furniture, doors and blinds are white. I have also added two black pieces being the foot stool and the shelf ladder.
I like to 'upcycle' bringing new life to old things and avoid buying new things as much as I can. The foot stool was a 'find' on a roadside verge rubbish collection which I cleaned up, stained the wood and re-covered the cushion in a contemporary charcoal and white daisy fabric. The retro chair was also a 'find' which I had recovered in a 'child-friendly' macro suede.
The cover on the change table was my blanket from when I was a baby. The lamp was a cheap little find and I recovered the lamp shade in a fun cherry fabric, trimming it with ribbon & lace. The pictures are gorgeous little cards I found then simply placed them in thick white frames. The 'combie' picture is actually a tea towel that I stretched over a canvas.
The quilt is handmade by my fabulous Aunty from The Silver Thimble, quilting being her specialty. The artwork & owlies are made by me - my little business is called Little Hoot. I hand make these little owlie cuddle buddies and artworks for childrens' rooms but also the 'big kids' (adults) like them too. My little business was inspired by Sana, my first daughter. I was struggling to find artworks that I liked to put in her room so having a background in fine arts and graphic design, I decided to make them myself. Then a friend asked me to make some for her friend for a present, then that friend asked me to make some and so on - Little Hoot was born!
The paper poms are the centre feature in the room. The block out curtains are a subtle pink & white gingham which also match the lining of the baskets under the change table.
Once 'little miss' is born, then I would like to add an initial of her name or her whole name in letters. I was thinking that I would cover them in fabric and more than likely hand make them myself.
