Mish mosh? Pish posh! We think Oscar's room is great. His mom Sarah: The room is kind of a mish mosh. The first thing we got was the chair. I hate the fabric but it is the most amazing chair to cuddle and read stories in (it swivels and rocks!). Someday we will reupholster it! The biggest hurdle was finishing before the baby came...new wool carpet and paint.
The whale mural took me a full day to do. My husband knew i was going to do a whale (his favorite) but had no idea what it would be until he came home from work. It was fun to see his reaction. I copied the graphic from a paper company (French Paper) poster. The little animal photos were from Etsy.com. I made the curtains and sheets. I used a subtle theme of animals but avoided having everything super matchy. Another goal was to keep it kind of gender neutral so things could be reused (wink wink).
Thanks Sarah and Oscar!

The whale is excellent-very cool!
I've always wondered about gender specific nurserys. What do you do when baby #2 doesn't follow suit? Redecorate with a kid underfoot?
by that I mean kudos on a beautiful baby room without the gender specific leanings of some of the other rooms featured on this site
I love this room. It is one of my favorites that I have seen on here. So personal and put together so well with out a overbearing theme. Perfect.
I love those curtains and the whale. Can you please tell us where you got them? Thanks and congratulations on the cutest room!
oops, somehow i missed the second part of your text! i've been looking for curtains just like those and can't find it anywhere and I can't make my own. I guess I'll look for fabric stores and see if my dry cleaner can sew it :)
hi ju - the fabric is a premier fabric pattern "media" : http://www.premierprintsfabric.com/collection.shtml
it's a home dec weight and i love the way it filters the afternoon sun we get in that room. thanks for all the positive comments everyone!
Love this room! Though seeing the crib under that window makes me nervous...hope Oscar isn't a climber!
Love the way you organized the closet! Was that a bookcase you fit in there, or did you make it yourselves for the space? Either way, smart thinking! (This from a mom scrambling to organize her third baby's closet - and baby is nearly 4 months old!)
love the Don Quixote print :)
I love, love, love this room... so refreshing and beautiful!
I love that chair! Navy blue velvet...MMMMmmmm
What a handsome room! Love the window treatments.

Can you please tell me where you got the white shelves and brackets from? I've been looking for something just like them! Thanks!
lots of ikea in here: the white shelf in the closet, the wall shelves and brackets (painted to match the walls), the toy basket, and the curtain hardware :)
The length of the curtains confuses me (both the decision on length for the longer ones and the decision to make the ones next to them shorter)...As does the height at which they hand (not quite half way from ceiling to trim...)
So, nice room, nice fabric, odd execution of curtains.
The curtains are made to measure with the window length, and the shorter length would help prevent baby from grabbing them- at leats for a while.
Great job. I love your crib! Please share where you purchased it! Thanks!
hi patterlm - the crib is a "dream on me contemporary convertible crib" and it was $130. it's comparable to buying an ikea crib. this one is on (plastic) casters which we've found actually useful because we roll him into the middle of the room when he sleeps so he can't mess with the curtains when he wakes up! but... it is a cheap crib (oscar can shake the whole thing). he's almost a year old and so far so good..
Thanks Sarah!! Very cute!
I LOVE that chair and the vintage furniture. And I think that whale themes are the best sort of themes :) LOVELY mural. Congrats!
