Rowen's room is perky and bright and his mom Beth even managed to make the ceiling fan fun. She shares: We wanted to create a soothing but fun new room for our 2.5-year-old son Rowen to move into as part of his "big boy" progression. Something that was whimsical but still child-focused to tap into his love of cuddly creatures and adventure. We also wanted to keep the cost down and do it as economical as possible, but still make it coordinated and interesting.
For our inspiration, we started with the fabric wall decals by the artist Sarajo Frieden from Etsy shop Chocovenyl. That set the color palette of blues, greens, and bone white. We decided to paint two walls blue and two walls bone to keep the room bright and light.
We purchased the bed, table and chairs, lamps, leaf, and bed linens from Ikea. The low bookshelf was from a thrift shop that we sanded and painted to match the palette. The sidetable was bought off craigslist, and we painted the baskets white and made liners for it. We even painted the blades of the old ceiling fan to draw more color upwards.
The large floor rug is actually a "17 magazine rug" from Sears which worked perfectly with bringing bold stripes into the room without being too busy. It was a great low cost option for such a large area rug, but is sturdy and does not slide.
The baskets are a mix from Ikea and from Home Depot's Martha Stewart line. The curtains were from Overstock.com and are soft white cotton linen which can be easily washed.
Rowen is delighted with his new room and loves spending time in there now sitting as his little table playing with his toys.
Thanks Beth!

Love the idea of painting the ceiling fan blades! We are also planning to transition our 2 year old to a "big boy room" soon-- it's currently a guest room with an ugly-ish fan. Can't wait to implement this idea!

There are a lot of great touches here but I think the rug really makes the room. Great job.
A beautiful room, Beth!
I'm very happy to see our fabric wall stickers happy endings.
Posted on Chocovenyl FB. Sarajo I hope will see it.
Best,

I second Stephanie's comment: the room is great, but the rug really puts it together. I like it a lot !
I love the ceiling fan and the select walls of blue! The decals are really nice, too.
