My Room: Ruby Mae

Portland, OR

It's always a 'Lovely Day' in Ruby Mae's room. Her mom Jenn shares: When we found out we were having a girl, my mind immediately started thinking about her room! The room needed to feel peaceful and clean while sparking fun and imagination at the same time...a little girl's room that she would love to be in at each stage of her life.

We combined vintage pieces with family heirlooms and Ikea basics to build a room that the whole family loves to be in. Color was brought in through the accents....the rugs (2 Ikea rugs taped together), the knick knacks on her shelf, books and the animal busts (from The Cherry Box.......I LOVE these!!!). We were lucky to score a 1969 vintage Eames Lounge chair and the dresser/mirror to bring the decor of the house into Ruby Mae's room. Ikea provided the crib, rugs, lamps and hamper.

The rest of the room was either pieces from our own childhood (my baby blanket and lifelong friend Big Ted, a clown my Great Aunt had made 30 years ago, favorite books our parents had saved, etc...) or from our friends and travels (Feathers painting by Kirsten Blair, handmade onesie/tutu, souveniers...). And what little girl's room is complete without a Wonder Woman?!?! I really wanted to share our love of music and positivity with her, and felt that a painting of the lyrics to Lovely Day by Bill Withers was the perfect way to do that.

All in all we really love this room. Hope you enjoy it too!

Thanks Jenn! We do!
