My Room: Ruby

Ladera Ranch, CA

Even if you don't think you're a "pink person," we think you'll agree that Rebecca's embrace of it in Ruby's nursery is a super successful celebration of it. Rebecca shares: We purchased our first home earlier this year so we had the very fortunate luxury of choosing between three rooms for Ruby's nursery. This particular room won because it had two windows, which should make for a more pleasant first year with all the time that will be spent there nursing!

The room was originally an olive green color so covering the dark paint with such a light color was definitely our biggest challenge. It took two coats of primer and two coats of paint. The trim and closet doors were also in pretty poor condition, so repainting them took a lot of time, but now the pink and white look so crisp together that it was worth every minute spent on our hands and knees covering every inch!

Our overall vision for the room was to be girly and contemporary. I have always loved the Restoration Hardware Baby & Child catalog nurseries but in general they lean on the too traditional side for our style, so we took inspiration from there and the contemporary print found on the bedding.

This will be our first baby so we definitely indulged in a few things for this room. Our more expensive picks were the RH Baby & Child glider and the Dwell Studio bedding set. Of course we'll be taking the bumper and quilt away until she is much older for safety purposes.

My favorite elements of the room are probably all the things we made at home. We used our laser printer and some Ikea frames to make all the prints and I hand painted the "paper dolls" and letters from unfinished craft supplies at Michaels. One great thing that we didn't plan on, is that we have have a lovely floor space allowing her to play and scoot around in a few months.

We have spent so much time in the room already, pulling projects together and me alone sitting on the glider, watching my bump contort into so many strange shapes that it already has fond memories! We are so happy we were able to achieve our vision and keep it comfy too.
