Two children sharing one room can look chaotic, but this soothing, sweet room is anything but. Tysha shares: My children are 19 months apart, a boy and a girl. We knew they would need to share a room, and I wanted to create a shared space that wasn't limited to "yellow and green". I wanted to be able to have a space that was inviting to our "all boy" and our "girly girl".
The room is approximately 12' x 14' and with the window area between, the room naturally fell into "his side" and "her side". We live in often-gray Seattle, so I settled on a pale yellow as the base for their room (it really lifts the spirits on rainy days!), with hints of gray and gold - and then a little splash of ballet pink and robin's egg blue. The style is minimal and contemporary, with a hint of hand-crafted vintage. I splurged on a couple of items, and then happily made a few items "from the heart" by adding several DIY creations as well. I put their shared dresser in the closet to give us more room to play and do plenty of somersaults :)
The DIY projects include the fabric poms above Aspen's crib, the silhouettes, wishes print, the Bird Mobile, bird prints, and bird houses, and the toddler bedding.
The crib and toddler bed are hand-me-downs, the beadboard shelf is from the Land of Nod, bookcase is from Ikea, and knock-off Eames rocker is from Overstock.com. The amazing play kitchen was handcrafted by a friend of the family, and then I finished it off with vintage-inspired fabric for the sink skirt and dishtowel.
The Modern English Alphabet Giclee print above Sawyer's bed is one of my favorite pieces in the room, designed and color-customized for us by Jeanie Nelson of the Papernut on Etsy. The "You are my Sunshine" print above Aspen's crib is another favorite - from The Wheatfield by Katie Daisy, also on Etsy.
Overall, I'm really pleased with how the room turned out. It doesn't shout "boy" or "girl" - it warmly invites, saying "this is OUR space, come and play with us" - which is exactly what I was hoping to achieve.
Thanks Tysha! Readers, say hello to Tysha and see more of this lovely room on her blog The Carters. Impressed with her photography? See much more of it at Little Red Wagon Photography.

Beautiful room! I wouldn’t mind moving in.
We live in only slightly less gray Portland and have a nearly identical wall color. It really does make the room feel sunny even on a cloudy day!
Lovely!! What's the paint color?
This room is SO CUTE. Everyone looking here must go to her blog to really get the whole picture. I love all of the prints and I adore the play kitchen
I love that this room feels calming and fun at the same time. The poster above is right, it's definitely worth a click over to the blog for a closer look. Love the great names too!
Love this room! I'm looking for style inspiration before painting our nursery and I love the wall color. What's the brand and name of the paint color you chose?

Sorry for the slow reply - I had to go look in the garage at the paint can. We used the duration home satin paint from Sherwin Williams and the color is
