We can imagine how satisfying it must feel to put down roots in your own home and Krystal fittingly turned her attention to this great room for her son: After buying our first home last April I was ready to give our 3-year-old a finished, permanent room. My inspiration came from the three vintage globes that I bought at a local antique store for $40.
The big chalkboard I found for $4.99 a while ago at the Goodwill and painted the trim brown. I drew the world on it with chalk for fun until he was old enough to use and draw on it himself. The black, chipped lowboy dresser was only $30 and is still my favorite piece. The two small school chairs were $30 at another thrift store in town. I made the curtains using 6 yards of britton hus fabric from ikea. And the bed I chose and love, is Ikea's trofast extendable bed and mattress which has been perfect for his smallish room.
Thanks Krystal! Readers, you can find Krystal at Turquoise and Chocolate.

Such an adorable room. I was happy to see the Trofast bed being used because my husband and I have been looking at it as option for our son, turning 3yrs in May. I was wondering how many years you think you will get out of the bed? Also, which if you remember which mattress you got, I would love to know. Thanks!
This room has so much charm. I love the gallery wall and the colors. I've thought about the Trofast bed for our son also. Are you able to use standard twin, fitted sheets on it?
Very cute! I love the vintage look with the school chairs and the map above the bed.
Love it!
Love the chalkboard and the school chairs. Awesome finds. Lucky little boy!
I expect the Trofast bed to last until William is 12 or so at least. It's a sturdy bed. I'll probably paint it once or twice as he gets older just to change things up. I think I bought the VYSSA SLUMMER mattress for extendable bed ($59.99), the picture online looks different from what I remember. I also bought the SULTAN LURÖY twin slatted bed base ($30). I use regular fitted twin sheets and tuck the extra underneath like any other mattress. It can be a little tricky/annoying changing the sheets because the mattress isn't all one piece but I don't mind it too much.
I love this room. The colors are great and I am a big fan of maps and globes. You can tell that a lot of care went into this room!
Thanks for answering my question Krystal.
I love this room! Simple, budget and gorgeous. I am thinking of stealing that chalkboard for my nursery. I love the old school green. :)
I love the vintage schoolhouse look! I have a map and a globe in my son's room, and I have an old school desk with attached chair I plan on using somehow...I want those metal chairs though!
This is such a perfectly timed post! We have an antique globe in my son's room, that I love. We plan to move in the spring, and that globe is going to be the inspiration for his whole room - you've done it so wonderfully! I love the colors of the map above the bad. Great room!
amazing! for vintage chairs like this here in europe we pay 100$ a piece!! :((
where is the pillow cover from? it's fabulous!
I absolutely love this room! I'm big on thrifting also, so this really does it for me!
Thank You! We went to the IKEA near our house to purchase the Trofast bed but they were out. Your post helped me decide this was definitely the right purchase for us. We will be in Orlando in 3 weeks and it is in stock there. I am so excited to get this for our son now!!!
