I am using the Method wood floor cleaning system. It is easy to use, has a wider base than the Swiffer, and has a washable pad. So far it is a winner for me and my hardwoods.

AKB2003, do you still vaccum with the system?

I recently converted to the Casabella Magnet Mop 2 and am as in love with a mop as someone who hates to clean can be. (http://www.casabella.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=80580_1&Category_Code=) Just wetting the mop with water and running it over the floor cleans very nicely, and you can use the Method floor cleaner or any other spray-on floor cleaner for some added oomph. (We're big on diluted white vinegar for our wood floors.) When the mop gets too dirty, just toss it in the washing machine. I've gotten in the habit of doing a quick mop every other night or so, and my floors are noticeably cleaner. (You can use it dry too, though I feel like it's cleaner if water is involved for some reason.)
(I had used the Method oMop, but found it kind of hard to use - the microfiber pad kept coming off and just didn't glide over the floor that smoothly.)

I'd recommend the Bonakemi line of mops/cleaners. I can get it at my local hardware, but Restoration Hardware carries it too (at least they used to). It is non-toxic. I'm never convinced that Method is non-toxic, their fragrances seem so strong. Are they really natural?

We've used ours for 10 years.

You just spritz it with a little water to get it damp, not soaking, and clean the floors with it. Then, just wash in your washing machine (no fabric softeners!).

Last time we walked through the Athens airport, they were cleaning their marble floors with our mop...

I love the Sh-Mop, which can be found here: www.thecleanteam.com It comes with regular, cotton mop heads, which are great for really cleaning the floor, but I also got the extra microfiber heads, which I use every day. They are machine washable and seem to pick up everything - pounds of dog hair, gallons of crushed cheerios, etc. Highly recommend the Sh-Mop!

i found a couple of patterns to crochet swiffer covers so i've been using those. they work well and i just wash and reuse!

DahliaCactus, I do vacuum if I have the vacuum out anyway when I'm doing nearby floors. Otherwise I just use the disposable paper covers that came with the mop to get up the dog hair before I mop. I have never had any problems with the Method pad coming off. The velcro is very strong.

I don't have any great insights on new/other mop systems, but I have used my swiffer with a regular old rag, dampened, instead of the disposable pads. Washcloth-sized rags seem to work pretty well. Just a thought!

I second the recommendation for the Bona Floor Care Products. We had the floors in our house refinished before we moved in - the contractor gave us Bona's Ultimate Hardwood Floor Care System as a "Thank You" gift. Two years, two kids, and a dog later our floors look as fantastic as they did the day we moved in. The products are easy to use, are readily available in our area, and haven't irritated anybody's lungs.

i really like the method o-mop too - i stopped using the wood cleaning solution and just use hot water. i found that so long as i rinse the microfiber mop head out frequently, water works as well as the cleaner (and is certainly cheaper!). i like that i can just rinse it out and hang it up to dry, since i don't have a washing machine.

I use an Orange Glo mop head with their microfiber pads. I bought a real handle, the little one it came with didn't cut it. First I make a dry mop pass, then go over it with a damp pad. If it's been a while between cleanings, I vacuum off the dry pad between rooms.

I use the Norwex (www.norwex.ca) system. Antibacterial (but in a good way!) microfiber, water only, a great product offering.
I don't buy any chems at all anymore.

I'm not sure what mop I have, but it looks like the one in the photo. We got it about a 9 mos ago, and it's great. The pads stick on with velcro and there are 2 of them, so we can rotate one into the laundry and have one in use.

We do still need to vacuum, as this doesn't get up food bits and stuff like that, but for day-to-day dust mopping I've been really very pleased with this.

Oh, and it is very thin, so it fits easily under doors and other low-to-the-ground pieces of furniture. And it swivels like a dream. I sound lke an ad but I'm not kidding. Got it at a green store on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn.
