What I Love About My Small Home:
We live in Wimbledon, London. I'm not a city girl, but we managed to find this tiny little bungalow (1 level home) very central to town. It was rented as unfurnished, so we could choose our own furniture for the first time since we rented in London. The living area and kitchen is small, but flows to the outside porch and garden, which makes it feel like we're living in the English countryside. It's cosy, but with enough space to eat at the kitchen island with two chairs. When we entertain we move the kitchen island closer into the kitchen and assemble a flip up table, enough to seat eight!! When I'm cooking in my tiny kitchen, I still get to chat with my husband while he watches TV and in summer we open the doors and have an annual summer party, inviting all our friends! It helps that we are in central London and our house is the 3rd one down from the station.
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
Big furniture makes a small space seem bigger, instead of small pieces of furniture that can make a space seem cramped. If you don't have a lot of space, use functional furniture. Our study/spare room has a daybed that can pull out into a double and it also has 3 underbed drawers for storage. Keep it light, too many dark colours are overwhelming and for me I feel that light colours promote calm.
