I feel like a nerd for writing this, but I name my gadgets. It used to be a random process, either a character from a movie I'd recently watched or an 80's character. My first job out of college I worked IT and my boss (who became and friend and mentor) named his stuff after Transformers. I used to watch the cartoon, but I wasn't the biggest fan. He passed away a year after I left that company, so in his honor, I started use his naming scheme...

Examples are: Smokescreen (Tivo), Metroplex (NAS), Jazz (music HDD), Meister (backup music HDD), Rewind (old iPod), Blaster (new iPod), Six Gun (PS3), Scamper (HTPC), Override (4G hotspot), & Alpha Prime (network). When I get a new toy I can spend 1-60 minutes looking up character list and picking the right name!
