- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love that it has a hotel feel about it - crisp sheets, huge bed - and yet everywhere I look I am reminded of the journey we went on to get to this room, this home, this marriage. Everything in that room has a history and I love being reminded of that. I also love how quiet it is - it's at the top of the house and once the windows are open all I can hear are the birds.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- I try not to buy, accessorize or decorate with anything unless I absolutely love it. A bedroom is such a personal space and it clutters your mind if it's full of stuff that's meaningless. Position your bed where it can get the most daylight in the mornings. Natural light is the best wake-up call so if you can live without curtains / blinds then all the better. If you share your space with a partner, try and find room to house your individual personalities. It makes for a more rewarding atmosphere. Oh, and a little vase of flowers, or even fresh mint does wonders for the soul too!
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- A little slipper stool in the corner made an ideal reading nook and I love nothing more than opening the skylight above and curling up with a book. I also added in some extra lighting points and used dimmer switches so that we can create different moods. By not having a TV in the bedroom it helps us to get away from the outside world. We used the tiny space behind the door to create a panelled wardrobe, and by hiding all the "everyday" stuff in this way it feels more relaxing and luxurious.

I like this. It reminds me of being in a room on an old passenger ship.
Well done, this looks great!
I love the contrast between dark and light. Great job!
Looks amazing! I love the flooring and tile in the bathroom. The wall color is really unique, and works great in the space.
Love this, especially the sweet floral chair. The paint colour looks awfully familiar, is it Farrow & Ball Downspout? The only thing I'm not sure about is having a loo without a door in the bedroom. Don't get me wrong, that is one styling looking bathroom, it's just that I prefer to have some sort of separation between the bathroom & bedroom.
I am liking your black nightstands. Who is the maker?
My favorite so far in this competition! Amazing.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Nice! I'm typically not a fan of dark walls at all....I may have to rethink my stance. Beautifully done.
Where are the storage boxes from? Are they leather?
Romantic and unique. Very nice.
"...and yet everywhere I look I am reminded of the journey we went on to get to this room, this home, this marriage."
Truly a beautiful sentiment. Love this.
Love the room, and relate to the sentiment.
It remains a very personal and quirky room, despite the boutique hotel qualities, a rare quality.
Agree with mschatelaine. The room reads as elegant and sumptuous but still personal. Would love to have a top floor bedroom with dormer windows like that.
I like this! It looks very cozy. I love the bathroom tile! It seems like it would be fun to have a room up high like this. This is exactly what I picture Archie McNally's room to be like (from the detective series). :)
What is the flooring in the bedroom? It looks like jute or some sort of natural fiber carpet, but I can't quite tell from the photos.
Pretty. Would love space for a little vanity!
I Love this, as I love white linens on the bed. It feels just the right measure of elegant and comfortable, and that dressing table is gorgeous. Enjoy it.
Perfect balance of light and dark. The only thing I miss is a reading light by the chair (perhaps I just don't see one).
I really like the dark color on the walls (I'm not a morning person so I don't like sunlight) and the skylight letting light enter so it's not too dark. That reading corner is so cozy, I want to curl up right there. Nice job!
I really like the color contrast that you have used. I also recommend using a something personalized cotton monogrammed pillow in the middle. The shop for this kind of pillow is found at http://www.etsy.com/listing/111303542/custom-monogram-pillows-18-x18-white?
I love everything about this bedroom but agree that some separation is needed between bathroom and room. I might suggest a one panel of a light and airy white cotton curtain suspended from ceiling or something. Uh! The bedroom is great regardless.
Oooohhhh...you make me sick! Love the bathroom...had to take another look...yep..you make me sick...LOL!
This is classy.
Hi, yes - it's a herringbone seagrass from the Natural Flooring Company.
would love to have the source of that black bedside fan?
That is really beautiful panel work and painting. Did you do it yourself? The bathroom is gorgeous too and I don't think a door is mandatory at all. Is that a velvet clown above the bed? Love it! Your room is really lovely!
The panelling and paint colour are fabulous. Don't even get me started on the bathroom ....
@stephanie blair Hard to be absolutely certain but I think I may have the same fan. Got it through the Restoration Hardware catalogue.
This does look like a state room on a passenger ship. First flowered chair I really like. Had to add mine to the vote total.
voting for the paint, the panelling the porcelain.. .. =)
I echo the sentiments that it evokes the feeling of being in a room on an old passenger ship. It's very lovely. I especially love what looks like shells on the paneling and I also voted for you.
