Name: Natalie and family
Location: Los Angeles, California
Since we moved into our townhome 18 months ago, we have changed every surface from floor to ceiling to make it our very own. I have also launched my own design firm, Veneer Designs, in that time and use my own home as a showcase for my style preferences.
Luckily I have a husband who is game for a living design lab and has learned not to get too attached to any one furniture piece as I constantly changes in furniture in and out via Craigslist. We strive for an open, bright, modern, but edited home.
Thanks, Natalie!

I LOVE that upstairs hallway, would love to see more!
Love the industrial/rustic blend. That stair railing is so beautiful.
Well done... house tour please.
Lovely!
Love the buffet but can't tell if it's Kent Coffey or something from the Broyhill Brazilia collection. I've always wondered why that was such a popular motif in that era. Even the Herman Miller logo and the St Louis arch relates.
i love the dining room, the stair railing and that desk. my father had a desk just like that and I'm kicking myself for letting my mom sell it in a yard sale when they downsized. you have a lovely home.
hmmmm....
Love the little guy sitting on the ottoman/coffee table :-)
I enjoyed your site! Best of luck with your new business.
Your kitchen has some similarity to mine, I felt like I was looking at my own cabinets and countertops.
Love the upstairs railing! and the rug in the dining room
wow! every single rug is beautiful!
Nice desk.
That desk makes the chair look like gold. Love the combo.
I think every single one of these photos is going in my inspiration file. If I could afford to hire a consultant and renovate my house, I'd pick her in a heartbeat. Such a lovely home!
Nice use of space in the dining room. I love the rug choice and the dark blues and wood tones work well with the cool grey walls. Looks like a relaxing and comfortable room.
The textiles in the living room look strange with the lamp and painting (although the lamp and painting look nice with each other.) It gives me the impression that half of the room was decorated by one person, and half by another, with no communication between them.
I like what's happening in the tiny office space, with the "industrial - meets - nature" elements. The yellow of the chair really livens it up, without being too loud. Great collage of artwork on the floating shelf, too!
Thanks everyone for the mostly very positive and supportive comments. And the constructive criticism that helps me to evaluate what is and isn't working in the different spaces. I'm always itching for change so having objective direction given is a good thing.
I love that desk. Does anyone know the name of that style of desk?
I guess it's just a pedestal desk. Do you know the manufacturer, Natalec?
I like the dining room. I agree with another commenter that the paintings are too small and hung too high. (About a foot too high in every case.) In the living room, I don't think the heavy leather ottoman works well with the sectional. There needs to be some airyness to counterpoint the compact chunkiness of the sectional and end tables. I would go for glass, but that may not be an option in a home with kids.
I *love* the grey wall in the bedroom. Natalie can you tell me what paint you used??
This home is a testament to the power of good accessorising. Much of the furniture here is fairly ordinary, but with the right rugs, pillows, occasional furniture, lamps and art it all looks like a million dollars.
I looked thoroughly at the midcentury tanker style desk and I couldn't find a label. Sorry. The reason I like it is because most tanker desks are made of metal and extremely heavy, but the wood version give same the same style and is much lighter.
The grey in the bedroom is Dark Granite and I love it.
I looked again at the pictures and I don't think they are too high. Maybe the picture cropping cut off the rest of room height so they look funny. To me in the real space, they are just right.
On the other hand, the orange and purple rug is cool but it does not belong in the living room.
Thanks guys.
i'll take that adorable kid, thank you.
Did you install the wood slat on the staircase rails yourself? I'm in love. What color stain is that (if you DIY'd)?
Yes, the horizontal wood slats were a simple design upgrade to the existing metal rail which had openings that were bigger than 4" through which a small child could fall through (frightening). First we painted the metal rail with Rustoleum gloss smoke grey. Then attached the wood after staining it with Minwax dark walnut. We have been using that stain on any wood finish throughout the home for consistency.
Love the contrast of the metal and wood. And its safe! That Minwax dark walnut is good stuff!
Ooo! Those rugs. Must. Have. Them. Can you give us a source? They are affordable right? *crosses fingers*
Tanker-style! That's why it didn't really match pedestal desks. Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know!
all the rugs are super affordable - the blue and white is from Overstock. People keep asking me about it. It is very popular and inexpensive.

The orange and purple was from Ebay - lucky bid, search kilim. And the small bedroom rug in an antique Baluch Persian rug that was a gift from my parents, hence free :)
