- Inspiration for my palette:
- I was inspired by our backyard. This a four season porch, and I wanted it to feel like an extension of the outdoors. I used a calming green for the walls and trim, which flows with the evergreen trees in our backyard and gives the room a expansive feeling. The ceiling is a pale, sky blue. It's a very relaxing place to sit year round.
- Colors used in my room
- The paint colors were Peridot and Dusk, by Ellen Kennon. The floor is brown, and I added a gold rug to bring in the colors of the kitchen and eating area the porch opens to.
- Tips for using color successfully
- It's such a cliche, but use what you love. I think that if you use colors you love throughout your house, everything will flow and go beautifully together.

Really, really lovely!
how wonderful to be surrounded by all that greenery, you must have quite the green thumb!
love love!!
This is the first entry that I've clicked on to get more pictures - literally took my breath away. So soft and inviting - just gorgeous!
What I would give to have a room like that! Beautiful.
oh my- I just want to be transported there with my coffee right. now.
Oh my goodness. I would never leave.
A really lovely color!
Love it! Like an indoor jungle!
So pretty!
This reminds me of my great aunt's house... plants everywhere! I love it.
This reminds me of my great aunt's house... plants everywhere! I love it.
Beautiful!
As I was having my morning coffee and Apt Therapy moment, I yelled out WOW! THAT'S AMAZING!!! and scared the cats.
What a glorious way to bring the outdoors inside. And what a fantastic green thumb you must have. Wish I could vote a million times
Now THIS is my kind of room!
Restful and still full of life! It would end up being my living room, since I would live here (never wanting to leave).
I'm so jealous. I have a cat that eats any leafy thing I bring into the house, and I am so jealous of those lovely houseplants.
So far my lucky bamboo is surviving (minus all the leaves) and my aloe only has a few teeth marks. They are a small comfort to me.
This looks fresh in every sense of the word. I love this entry because the overall effect is so special, but the individual items are all modest. The plants are all thriving! Great job!
I love this ! In the dead of winter an island of Summer!
I don't like the color green, but I really love this room.
I love this room but I wish there were more photo's. Perhaps a tour....
Doesn't get better in my opinion. This reads "home".
OMG! No seriously ... OMG!! I felt a surge of FRESH or something when I clicked on this. What a wonderful space!
Wow!
That's love pure! It's the matter of dreams!
What more can I say? for once I'm almost envious.
I generally don't care for green, but this is a lovely room. I'm probably about 40 miles from you . . . wanna come redo my space??
Green is the right colour for this room. It must be glorious to have coffee here, especially in the winter.
This is by far my favorite room in the contest so far. Amazing job.
An oasis. Oh my, this is so beautiful.
Oh wow, this is lovely. This room gives me so many good feelings I can't even start talking about how much I love it.
Amazing and so very inspiring! :o)
I just felt my blood pressure drop a few notches.
This is one of my favourite rooms ever on AT!
Love it. Reminds my of my grandmother's porch from when we were younger. A really sunny room filled with plants and all sorts of interesting things.
Good on you, Grand Rapids! And don't think I didn't notice the Marushkas through the doorway, either.
This room should win.
Perfect!
Thank you everybody for all of your sweet comments! I really don't have a green thumb, it's just that over the years I have figured out which plants I can keep alive (this is why, if you look closely, you'll see lots of multiples).
@Pythia, I wondered if anybody would recognize the Maruskas! I have them all over the house, but this is my favorite display.
this room is so dreamy
The room is just "Gorgeous".....what a great job you have done.....Good Luck on the Contest....
Green glorious green : )
absolutely beautiful paint colors
I absolutely love the colors-- I keep thinking about this room!!
This is beautiful and I do love green. I hope that you can enjoy this space during winter too.
suppppppperrrrrrrr love this.
I adore this. It's so funny, though, to see the rooms categorized by warm and cool. I understand that greens are on the cool side of the color wheel, but everything about this room screams "warm" to me. The light, the yellows in that shade of green, the lush plants...
@GardenMuse, yes! We use this room year round. I love it most during the winter.
@maryaleslie, I agree. It seems like a warm room to me too, but their submission guidelines had greens in the cool categories, and some of the example rooms had similar colors, so I just went by that.
Thanks again for all the kind comments!
