According to the story in the New York Times, the couple decided on their pared-down hilltop cottage after testing out some more ostentatious ideas. I bet they're glad they're not living in glass-and-metal mansion with serene results like this.

It soo beautiful! The link in the post is broken...
lovely! The blue wall color in the first photo is absolutely dreamy - I feel like I could fall right into it. LOVE it.
The wall colors are really wonderful and remind me of the gray tone pastels of araucana eggs.
Love the flower press in the first photo.
Extremely relaxing and beautiful.
My family and I saw this slideshow on the NY Times site and fell in love. My four year old kept saying, "What a nice view". My daughters even chose which bed was "theirs". Among the many things I like about the place are the colors (many of which are in our home) and the rug in the living room.
I love this, this is about an hour from where I grew up. Nothing beats Cape Breton in the summer!
Great fantasy material, especially the green bedroom.
Dreamy. Add some filmy curtains moving in the sea breeze coming through the windows and I might be able to force myself to stay there.
Seriously serene and beautiful. Bravo restraint!
This home was profiled in Canadian House and Home in 2009. I thought it looked familiar. Here's the link for more pictures:

It's a beautiful home but I think what stood out to me the most while looking at the pictures along with the article and reading the captions was the massive amount of money this couple spent on high-design objects for a vacation home. $2000 goat skin chairs at the kitchen table? $950 coffee table? $940 wall sconces in a bedroom?? $678 piet boon desk with a $750 lamp on top! Please.
This is SO not a cottage
Every picture I clicked through caused an involuntary "I want to go to there" chorus in my head. Gorgeous.
This is so pretty it hurts.
They also featured this lately in the local Nova Scotia provinicial newspaper. Beautiful. The couple not only furnished with high end pieces, but also visited local vintage and antique shops to outfit their gorgeous space. A great marriage of old and new, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a paradise as serene as Cape Breton. Kudos.
