In an effort to cut down on buying more things, I've started to give mending more consideration. In doing so, I've seen so much potential in all of my tired-looking clothes. With a few patches I could get an extra 6 months out of that worn in, comfortable pair of jeans. Or that t-shirt with the awkwardly placed hole? I could stitch it up and make it look that much more unique! Once I started seeing all of these possibilities, my "to mend" pile become massive. I started talking to friends and realized that they had jackets with missing buttons they needed to fix up as well. So I figured, why don't we all get together, turn on some music, and freshen up our wardrobe a bit?
It turns out that way more friends than I thought had the exact same pile. Lots of my friends even brought other friends that needed to fix their things. I set up 2 sewing machines, and provided some needles and thread - and voila! I found that not only did I get my mending done, but all my friends are actually incredibly resourceful! We came up with all kinds of creative ways of fixing up our garments, and now wear our stitched up, patched jeans with pride. It was a really great way to share work, meet new friends, and be productive!
