If you're a fan of bottled soda, the green-tinted glass filled with tiny air bubbles might look familiar to you. When those thick glass bottles from Coca-Cola can no longer be recycled and reused, Japanese studio Nendo upcycles them into the modern tableware you see here.
The collection, aptly named Bottleware, is created completely from Coca-Cola's iconic 1916 "contour bottles," tinted in the company's trademark "Georgia Green," which are continually collected, cleaned, and refilled in many countries. When the bottles reach the end of their lifespan, Nendo turns them into bowls and dishes that mimic the clean lines and textures of the original bottle.

White Enamel Four-P...
Cute, until you convert the price of 14000 yen to US dollars and one dish costs $170. PASS.
Pricey, but very pretty.
I have some similar stuff, also made of recycled bottles but without the designer name, that I bought in Mexico very cheaply.
It is beautiful...I wonder how long before they start selling it in the Museum?
IT is new and unique idea to minimize quantity scrap bottle from home.

I love these, but agree that they are way too pricey for recycled coke bottles. Maybe you could add these to next year's holiday giveaway? Or this year's, that would be fine too. :)
Drat--would have made the perfect gift if not so overpriced.
There is an artist on ETSY that takes beer bottles and upcycles them into drinking glasses. He'll even send them to you in the carton 6 pack it original came in.
He seems to do most of his sales during this time of year.
I've been interested in doing this myself since I save EVERY glass jar from mayonaise to green olive bottles. I think I'll take a glass or get a book...what a super cool idea and so many options.
Fantastic up-cycling and beautiful but a tad on the expensive side :-(
@smilingmegs, MOST glass is recycled these days -- why does making things form Coke bottles suggest they should be cheaper to you???
Seriously?
yes. recycling doesn't necessarily make it easier to make a glass bowl. and, like she said, most glass is recycled these days so they are bidding against other companies for supply. plus, this glass in particular has a strong collectors community. the rates for glass to recycle into something new can be quite competitive, not always cheap just because it was once used and thrown away. those facts help make up the cost of the new pieces and might be more than you would guess.
@SherryBinNH it's that kind of elitist attitude that makes recycled products unaffordable and even unappealing to regular people, if you can afford 170.00 for one dish, well congratulations, but I'm pretty sure that any recycled glass dish does not cost anywhere near that to make and if it did the process would be quite out of reach for the average person....
