The online magazine is making its mark upon the interior design world, most notably by Domino spinoff Lonny. But there's a new kid in town called Nesting Newbies, and though its focus is wider and encompasses all aspects of domestic life, the interior stories are worth checking out.
Only three issues in, Nesting Newbies is already developing a nice vibe. All spaces included are decidedly modern, but a range of styles and types of rooms are explored within this large envelope. This mag's interior shoots aren't as heavily styled as the glossies we're used to seeing every month, but a major benefit of this approach is that the ideas showcased are easy to adapt to your own taste and budget.
This is definitely one to watch.

Great photos, looks promising. I really like the window treatment thing in the first photo and the loveseat in the fourth photo. Nesting Newbies sounds classy and comfortable.
Holy crap, I gasped at every room. I LOVE the string chandelier. LOVE it. I've noticed even the major magazines are starting to get away from the "perfectly appointed" rooms in favour of a little more personality. For about 5 years the rooms in most decorating magazine looked like they were all owned by the same (boring) person. Glad to see the change. LOVE THE STRING CHANDELIER.
I'm a nesting newbie...well soon-to-be so this is right up my alley. I'm always looking for inspiration as I'm still figuring out my decor style, so thank you for posting this.
I discovered this magazine last week, and I LOVE it! I really miss Domino, and this fills in for it pretty well.
The only thing is that I hate reading magazines on the computer, but I guess that's the way of the future.
I love how everything is clickable, and I can go directly to the product site - I just wish more design houses had online shopping, and prices, for that matter. I don't care if you think not listing your price seems exclusive and posh - I need a price list. I hate spending time running around calling shops and sending email inquiries.
Looks terrific, but the name is terrible, IMO..sounds silly.
it is a great mag. i found a great moroccan party room no there, plus some great designers.
@brave little toaster - I agree, the name is ridiculous.
The photos are okay, but the whole thing is weak. "Home tweet home"? The videos aren't very interesting, and while I like some of the products and layouts chosen, it's doesn't seem like a real magazine--more like a PR venture. The editor's a PR person, not an experienced journalist, like Deborah Needleman of Domino.
I wanted to like it because I like the format and the idea of something close to Domino but I find it very elementary and boring. The interiors featured are uninspiring or really off ,
I see much better here on AT. The food section from what I have seen in all three issues has been very basic and the rest of it I felt I could not click through fast enough.
I think one of the problems with the magazine is that it's trying to talk "down" to "newbies" - look, I'm young, but I know what I like - $90 pillows alongside cutesy photo spreads about DIY entertaining just seems off somehow.
I'm not sure I'll ever warm up to online magazines as long as they are formatted this way. I really don't understand the benefit. I get it guys, it's a magazine. Waiting for that virtual page turn over(complete with sound-effect) is a cute little trick I could do without.
The page flipping noise was driving me CRAZY until I figured out how to turn it off... (Look under Settings)
I'm still looking for a Domino replacement. Not a big fan of the online magazine format.
Living, Etc. is such a big investment for a magazine, I wish we could just bring Domino back...
Doesn't really seem like my thing.
The whole point of Nesting Newbies is to give the "newly nested" whether novices or those who have style sense of what you can do from decorating to entertaining to cooking. Most of these online magazines companies have lots of people working and lots of money. Nesting Newbies is essentially a VERY short list of passionate individuals who believe there is something missing! Every issue is better than the next and there is some good content and not just ad after ad after ad!
The white table and blue Eiffel tower chairs are JUST what I'm trying to hunt down for my dining area. Can anybody please clue me in on where to get them? Thank you in advance!
There was a HYSTERICAL thread yesterday on Facebook, when West Elm posted a link to Lonny... and nobody even understood what it was. "Is this, like just pictures?" "Is this just a catalog?"
Scary. Hilarious.
And, um wingit, are you being sarcastic?
And I like these images here, but these are no "just out of college" budget jobs...
where can i find these blue chairs??
