As I was swooning over the sold-out Natalie Portman in "Hotel Chevalier" poster I showed you on Friday, I started wondering if other artists were also creating gorgeous prints in the Art Nouveau style. Thank goodness, a few of them are...
- This haunting Black Swan poster was created by Maura of Unspoiled Monsters as an art school assignment- I think she nailed it. You can also see her 1st and 2nd drafts!
- One of my favorite girls is serious about her love for Dr. Who (and she has pretty red hair like Amy Pond) and I'm pretty sure she needs this poster. Does anyone know who created it? And who knew Art Nouveau and sneakers went together so well?
- This darkly innocent poster is by the Italian trio of artists known as Malleus, as part of a show they did in San Francisco celebrating "a revival of psychedelic Art Nouveau-influenced new posters".
- A classy poster in a wonderfully restrained palette was created for the band Phish's "last" show, in 2004. I love the girl's haughty gaze, and the corn (I think?) growing around her. Again, does anyone know the artist?
- Finally, the one that kicked us off, N.Po in all her glory. This poster was made by Joshua Budich for last year's Bad Dads exhibition at Spoke Art, and is, sadly, sold-out.
If you love Art Nouveau posters as much as I do, I highly recommend doing a little searching for yourself: "Art Nouveau concert posters", "Art Nouveau movie posters", "new Art Nouveau". There are so many incredible examples that I didn't feature here...because they contain a lot of (very tasteful) nudity!

Love the Dr. Who poster! Did some searching and it appears the artist is Bill Mudron and you can purchase it here:

Oh I told myself I wouldn't be evil, but as an art someone with an art degree, these look very amateurish. Only the 3rd one works for me. The first one, it looks like she has something coming out of her fanny and the composition, with the odd photoshoped black background just does not work.
Joshua's print isn't sold out. You can get it on his site for $20.

Although I wouldn't buy any of these particularly, I love this idea and hope to see more of it!
Please disreguard my previous comment. In fact I would NOT like to see more ripped-off art like this.
I can tell you who originally created poster #2, it was Alphonse Mucha, and you can buy a print of the real thing here.
@jess13
#2 is called Amy Pond by way of Alphonse Mucha. It looks like he reimagined a famous print with a character that he likes and he's not hiding the fact that Mucha created the original. I don't see much difference between this and images where the individuals of the Last Supper are replaced with people from Star Wars or Peanuts characters.
LOL @ the black swan poster! It would make a great advertisement for Fanny Brice.
There are some great firefly posters in this style. Not sure who orinally produced them, but they are on amazon.

the Phish poster looks like a Bob Masse.
the amy pond says "by bill mudron" in the file name at the original blog.
whats that white thing coming from her booty
Muesli & aafilipp- I assumed it was her little fluffy swan-tail!
Sorry Jess13, but *most* great art is an amalgamation of influences: borrowing from previous artistic movements, an artist's contemporary rivals, and endless other sources of inspiration. Art isn't created in a vacuum.
To single out this picture as a "rip-off" is near-sighted, and shows a lack of understanding of the entire history of art, not to mention music, literature and even dance.
@Xtina
The Firefly posters are by Megan Lara, at http://meganlara.com
There is actually a 5th print to the set (Saphron).
I saw them at SD Comic Con 2011, and evidently so did Joss Whedon. He bought the whole set right then and there (Megan was away from the booth at the time!).
Megan Lara has done a great many Art Nouveau style pieces, and is known among her nerdy fans for them (including the women of X men and most recently a zombie piece).
#2 is certainly QUITE close to the art Jess13 mentions, as well as a personal favorite, http://images.moviepostershop.com/sex-and-the-vampire-movie-poster-1971-1020413588.jpg , an original print of which hangs at my work. I'd say, in the style of.
As a student of humanity... hasn't everyone ripped of Mucha? Get real.
Well, to cut off a ballerina at the ankles is strange (and bad for the artistic composition).
Though on a positive note, those N.P. posters really look like her :)
I think the second poster is different enough that it's clearly inspired by... not a ripoff of. And ditto everything that Bredlo said.
Please tell me that if you can see that #2 is a really close "in the style of", that you can see that #3 is even more so a virtual replica of Alphonse Mucha's work for Moet and Chandon Champagne? The artist of this poster did not even bother to change the fabric style of the original print by Mucha. I'm all for inspiration, but please! Liking #1, #2 and #5, because they clearly know how to take an impression of style and make it their own.

@jess13, I feel you. I think it can be cute and fun to insert a new pop icon into an existing piece, but these artists/designers could have created an entirely new design. I'd be much more impressed.
As a matter of fact, this was a a project in one of my college design classes. People who just used existing posters -- no matter how cleverly they did it -- just didn't get the same wow factor as those of us who actually took the time to draw our own original work.
