...Clark. It's a retro-ish sofa that has a fully reclining back, allowing it to be converted into what they call a "full lounging position". It's available in two colors of faux-suede, a pumice and a light camel, and it's selling for $999.
While we like the slim lines for a sleeper (and the pumice color), we're not 100% sold on the design just yet - the height of the back in relation to the arms looks just a bit off. We're reserving judgement until we hear some in-person reviews...has anyone checked out the Clark in store?

I'm curious about the Clark, too. There's a little foot on the floor under the back when it's down. I'd like to see what it looks like from the back when it's in sofa mode. Anybody?
I'm still saving my pennies to nab the One Night Stand sleeper sofa from Blu Dot. Please... let it be at the warehouse sale next spring...
What size sleeper does it make into? Twin, full?
After looking around forever, I finally bought this earlier this year for our guest room/office/library. (It's actually more a dark brown, though it looks black in the picture.) Same concept, and cheaper; I paid $400 for it on sale. It even has storage underneath. It's pretty comfy, too.
click the link and look at the product dimensions
The big problem w/ this product is that is has a very simple mechanism which means that if you place it against the wall, you have to drag it out in order to open it.
The old "Click-Clack" Castro Convertible sofas had mechanisms where the seat would slide forward and the back would drop down so you could put the sofa against the wall -
It's a shame that it's near impossible to find sofas like that that look good too.
I agree, Standupstapler, the One Night Stand is a brilliantly designed sleeper! I'm hoping it goes on sale, too!
Peggasus, your link doesn't work.
Hmmm...it works for me. Here you go again, just in case:

Lady J -- You know I would have done that if the link had worked for me, but since it didn't, I asked. I didn't know that was offensive.
I just bought this sofa 50% off at West Elm yesterday and I LOVE IT. I wouldn't pay for full price, but I love the design. It's def much lighter than a sofa bed and it's more comfortable than a futon. I believe it's a full size mattress if you are comparing for size. If you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to help answer. :)
Hientran - what is the back of the sofa like? With the legs can you put it against a wall? Thanks!
The Clark would be perfect, except it is only 45" wide when open. Comparatively, a double futon is 54". It's a shame, because the Clark has everything I'm looking for. It's stylish, comfortable (I went to West Elm to try it out), and very affordable. However, at only 45 inches wide, it is more like a twin bed best suited for only one person. Hopefully West Elm will catch on and make something similar that is a little wider. If it does, it will be a hot item. For now, I'm saving up for a Nomade Express from Ligne-Roset. I hate to spend thousands of dollars, but it's the only thing that is suitable.
Heintran - I was just wondering where you found the sofa for 50% off? Did it make it's way to a West Elm outlet? I'm a little obsessed with the sofa but haven't been able to find it in a store in NYC :-/
Thanks
Do NOT buy this sofa! Just brought ours home and just adore it. Stylish. Compact. Ready-to-go for unexpected guests. I want my sofa to be one-of-a-kind...just kidding. Great value for the money and stylish to boot!!!
Do not buy this sofa if you intend to use it as your primary seating. Mine is 1.5 years old and I am very disappointed with it. In the store is seemed comfortable - a little firm, but I was looking for something that would not sag after a year. There is very little padding in the seat. I can now feel the wooden supports from underneath when sitting on it. There are 3 distinct indentations in-between these supports and this sofa is so umcomfortable that after 30 minutes, your butt goes numb. The design is very nice. It does have to be moved from the wall in order to fold it down. There are 2 hidden support legs that unfold from zippered compartments on the back and these keep the whole thing stable when used as a bed. At this point I would be reluctant to allow any guest to sleep on it....unless I am trying to get rid of them. Today I am going out to search for a new sofa...very disappointed in the Clark.
That's too bad, njbecky, but thanks for the update. I was thinking about buying this but won't now.
