This May, an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art will explore how new technologies are impacting the fashion world.

Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology comes from The Met's Costume Institute, and will examine how computer modeling, 3D printing, laser cutting and other "machine-based" fabrication methods are impacting the industry.

From Andrew Bolton, Costume Institute curator:

Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made, but recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.

Manus x Machina runs from May 5 through August 14.
