West Elm is said to be launching in a new direction this fall. Through the styling of their Fall collection, it seems that they are following some trends we've been seeing for a while — mixtures of old and new and the use of warm wood tones and lots of texture. Regardless, after a quick perusal of their new items I quickly had a full shopping bag.
Here are some of my favorites from West Elm's Fall Preview:
(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT):
1 - I've been searching for a boldly patterned rug that still remains neutral and the Kite Kilim Rug could be my solution. It's like the perfect compromise between a zigzag rug and West Elm's old Moroccan rug. Also pictured are the Bookshelf Side Table and the Jute Cube.
2 - I recently did a roundup of masculine bedding and I'd like to add the Totem Duvet and Shams to that set. The "tribal" yet somewhat whimsical pattern is done in a great neutral combination of platinum and slate.
3 - My new workspace has been begging for a "not your ordinary" task lamp. The Loft Task Lamp's combination of iron, wood and a metal shade is the perfect mix of retro industrial goodness. It's also available as a Loft Floor Lamp.
4 - Dirty laundry is a necessary evil, but ugly hampers don't have to be. The Ikat Woven Collection features two different sizes of woven grass baskets in a black and natural pattern. Unfortunately the bench pictured is not for sale.
5 - Attention small space dwellers, the new Tripod Table is a perfect modern bistro table for your non existent dining rooms and breakfast nooks. Just go bold with it and get it in the Saffron as the White and Chocolate tables are so expected.
All of the items above are already available online, but previews of more new items set to launch in August are also available at Elements of Style: West Elm Fall Preview and Poppytalk: West Elm Fall 2010 Preview.

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
a few of those new bedding styles are old ones they're bringing back. i like the slate color for fall.
Lady J
You're so right - The Saffron Octagon bedding is a definite repeat...
...however that's not a bad thing - I think these retailers introduce and discontinue items far too often.
Yeah, very excited about the slate color. Not a fan of brown.
Wow, the slate color is so excellent.
so japaniese..
This is soooooo off topic, but I just reviewed the profile of you, bepsf. Yours is an opinion I always look for in the comments and respect. I don't know why, but I always assumed you were female. Wanted to say that, didn't know where to post it.
i don't think they've exhausted all the options on the ethnic embroidered style, personally. they really should offer a cyclamen duvet with white embroidery and vice-versa. or a deeper cerise would be nice for fall. and something in the purple family. hell, even slate would rock...
@1050908 --
Wow - Thanks!
And yeah, I'm definitely a guy...
...At least I was last time I checked!
But he gets that a lot. ;)
@ 1050908:
Me too.
me three, on the female part
me four
me five.
On topic: The tripod table does look tempting. Really liking the curtains behind it too.
I saw the silk ikat pillow in the Santa Monica store over the weekend. Love the slate but they still need to dial down the espresso stained furniture considerably.
LOL!!
I'm so glad we got bepsf's gender straightened out. LOL Its funny how we inadvertently make assumptions.
I LOVE so many of these new items form West Elm - love the shades of gray. Seems like we are seeing a lot of gray lately, looks like the big color for fall? To me it seems sophisiticated yet surpisingly warm. Makes me want to repaint a couple rooms in my house...
West Elm doesn't usually excite me, but I do love that floor lamp! The description on the site says that it has a "C-shaped base to get in close beside furniture", but the photos show a round base (which I like). Odd. The price is right, but I've never ordered anything from West Elm before. Can anyone vouch for the quality?
Not to re-stir an old pot, but I went and checked out all the new beddings on the West Elm site, and their "Seedling" bedding line looks an AWFUL lot like an IKEA duvet that's been spotted in several Apartment Therapy posts - I think it's called "Kajsa Blad"? Not saying anyone copied from anyone, and I don't know if the West Elm line was one of those that was released previously and discontinued and brought back...
I'm just saying, there's a lot of copying going on in the world. Or, to put it another way, a "motif" gets popular and everyone comes out with one and who's to say who copied who?
I would love to have the wooden table in the background of the living room shot. Anyone know where to locate one of these?
Love the bentwood chair knock-offs. FWIW, @bepsf, I never wondered about your sex.
I always imagined bepsf was a woman in her early thirties named Betty.
I have a bed and headboard from WE, and both are sturdy and well-made. WE is the lower-priced branch of the Williams-Sonoma brand along with Pottery Barn.
that's a bench, not a table. compare it's height to the baseboard behind it.
I've know that bepsf was a man for some time now, but I too used to think he was a woman! Which is funny, because I tend to think that a lot of these posts are by men. It's always a surprise when I find out that someone is a woman. Maybe it's because bepsf always has a very well thought out, organized, detailed comment. NOT THAT A MAN CAN'T BE AS ORGANIZED AND INTELLIGENT AS A WOMAN! I'm just sayin'.....
whatever it is bench or table, it's the thing I like best.
@ 1050908,
me six? seven? I starting crushing on bepsf a year or two ago, but for some reason, I think I always knew he was a he.
lovely!! i've enjoyed west elm for some time now. and yes, gray has been the hot color for at least 2 years now. this past year all the students in our interior design department at school used gray as a major color theme. (myself included!!) :)
and i am a woman. proudly. ;)

Wow, I must be a cheapskate! LOL, those prices have me rolling my eyes. Nice items, a bit out of my price range.
When I read bepsf's comments I always hear a male voice in my head=)
saw a bunch of this stuff in store today. that tripod table is a cafe size. the measurements on the sign confused me: 30W x 34.5D x 4.5"H... how is that even possible. in any event it's a nice eatable size (small) and the saffron lacquer looks great.
also saw block print paisley organic bedding. slate gray on white and white on pale gray. fantastic look.
Is that Kite Kilim rug more dark gray or navy or black?? I can't really tell in any of the swatches.
I urge you NOT to order from West Elm. Save yourself the trouble and the headache.
The only reason I gave this one star is because I couldn't put zero stars. I have NEVER dealt with a less professional business than West Elm.
I purchased a king size bed frame and head frame. UPS delivered the headboard about a week and a half later. The bed frame was routed to the wrong address and it was only discovered when they called to try to deliver to the wrong state (yes, as in US State). I spent the next 33 days trying to get it re-routed, all the while watching stock dwindle. I called countless times and spent countless hours on the phone about every other day. On the 33rd day I finally got someone willing to do their job and it was finally re-routed.
A week later my bed was delivered. As the delivery crew assembled what should be my king size bed I noticed a number of problems, the biggest being it was not a king size bed, but a full. On top of that they did not have any slats and the cross brace looked to be from a twin and did not cover the width of even the full bed. I called customer service and was told they no longer have that bed in stock and basically I was out of luck. The bed frame went back with the delivery drivers. On top that, the bed that they did put together looked like it would buckle under 10 pounds, the quality simply was NOT there.
I then explained to them that I needed to get a headboard back to them since I did not and would not be getting a bed to attach it to. Had I actually got someone to do their job a month and a half ago this probably would not be a problem. Since I was expecting a bed to attach this headboard to I had discarded the box. In hindsight, my mistake was assuming I was dealing with competent people. I was told they cannot send someone to get this and I would have to find a box to put it in and ship it back to them. Where exactly am I going to find a box to fit a king size headboard?! Not likely...
So basically, for over a month and a half of my time trying to get someone to do their job, more frustration than I thought possible, and most likely money out of my pocket for a huge box to ship this back, I got NOTHING! And it's not even over.
I am still waiting on my refund for the frame, and unless I can figure out how to get a box for the headboard I am out of luck... great way to do business.
I urge you NOT to order from West Elm. Save yourself the trouble and the headache.
