First things first: just because something is made of bamboo or corn doesn't necessarily make it green. Bamboo may be produced or shipped in an unsustainable manner, and we have reservations about the corn industry. That said, however, if you're already in the market for an alarm clock, radio, or calculator, these new products from French company Lexon might be worth considering.
We are often disappointed by the lack of elegant design in eco-oriented gadgets, so these 2010 additions to Lexon's bamboo collection instantly caught our eye. In addition to bamboo, these wall and travel clocks, hand-cranked radios (which you can plug an iPod into), pocket lights, and calculators incorporate corn plastic, solar technology, and LED.
If you speak French, there's a video of Lexon president René Adda speaking about the design of environmentally-friendly products. We're waiting to hear back from the company regarding whether its bamboo is FSC-certified.
No word yet on pricing, but for more information, visit the Lexon site.

Nice. And I share your reservations about the subsidized Demon Corn.
