New Lightswitch Lets CFL Bulbs Dim Subtly

If you've ever used a traditional dimmer switch with a CFL dimming bulb you've probably noticed that the brightness transitions are a bit stop and go. That's because standard dimmers aren't optimized for CFL mechanics. Home Automation, Inc. recently released a dimmer specifically made for CFL "twist" bulbs.

The 500W CFL Switch not only allows for smoother transitions, but you can set your lamp to the minimum brightness setting without that seizure inducing fluorescent flickering. It also has the ability to be programmed (via included software) to turn off automatically after a set amount of time. A cool feature to use when installing lights in closets, pantries, basements, or garages where you may have your hands full when you're leaving the area.

The 500W CFL Switch will be on store shelves in the second half of 2010 and will be available in almond, light almond, black, brown, grey, ivory, and white shades.
