Webzine House of Fifty just launched its debut Summer 2011 issue which aims to help readers find "inspiration in the everyday."
The effort was the brainchild of editor Janelle Beals, who writes a daily blog called Isabella & Max Rooms. It's full of shabby chic and modern interior design inspiration, and also beauty, cooking, and baby stories. We especially love the easy-to-follow tips on decorating broken down by step.
Check out the full publication: House of Fifty.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Love her blog, looking forward to checking this out :)
Nice enough content, but I don't know which marketing genius came up with the "magazine" style of online publication; it's horrible.
Agreed with tbgboodler - While I love most online magazines, this one uses a different format which is annoying to read.
Is there an iPad-version? That would be handy...
The format is too confusing. If I want to read a magazine, I'll buy one. With all of the simple, easy to load and user friendly formats available, I'm surprised that they opted for this one. There might be good content, but I'm not navigating all that to find out.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who had an issue with the formatting.
Thanks for the formating feedback, can only improve if you hear all the responses, from the good to the not so good! Issuu has been a great company to work with, many online publications use them with great success, including Rue and the likes. We are also looking into getting an iPad app, Issuu says one is coming, so we'll see who develops it first!
Thanks for the feature today, Apartment Therapy! Janell
The format looks like the format of other online magazines. *confused* Am I missing something here?
agreed with the format issue. It just really bothers my eyes when it does that animated page flip.
Content wise it looked very interesting and inspiriting. I'd love to see more of it! ( without the page flip animation, and perhaps a bit higher resolution. Some pages looked a bit pixelated)
what's the beef with the format? it's issuu based. looks the same as lonny, rue, and high gloss.
Really enjoyed flipping through the first issue and have it bookmarked for a more leisurely explore. Format seems fine to me.
Pick a font, or two. Maybe three. But for the love of graphic design, stop using them all! If nothing else, that cover layout is a disaster. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should! Great layout design is a skill and a talent and I'm sick of everyone just throwing up some online magazine disaster. Crazy rant done now.
It doesn't look the same as Lonny & Rue to me. When it's not in "full screen," it's nearly impossible to read. I can flip through Lonny & Rue and then zoom in on articles that interest me. With Fifty, I had to have it in full screen the entire time. I suppose I'm too fidgetty to do that.
Love Janell's blog and I love The House of Fifty online magazine as well. Great collaboration with talented people and a fun read, Kathysue
I enjoyed looking through the first issue but I agree that it's harder to read than some other on-line magazines. Many of the images are pixelated and the quality of the graphic design seems a bit rough or maybe just unfinished. Hopefully things that can be addressed in the next few issues. Good luck with the project, Janell. I do enjoy the blog.
I love this magazine!! I didn't see a problem with the on-line format but I don't read magazines on-line often so I may be missing something. Can't wait to read the next issue!
Thanks for all of the feedback. This is how we make our future issues better!
Thanks again to Apartment Therapy for the mention!
