Trex, makers of recycled plastic decking, molding, and trim products, just launched a collection of outdoor furniture manufactured from 90 percent recycled content—including post-consumer materials, such as milk jugs and laundry detergent bottles.
The Outdoor Furniture Line has 4 collections
- Cape Cod, $122 - $650
- Yacht Club, $196 - $960
- Rockport Collection, $229 - $2,143
- Monteray Bay, $199 - $740
I'm personally a fan of wood furniture, but recycled plastic definitely has its advantages: it's durable, water resistant, and low maintenance, and unlike wood furniture, it won't rot, splinter or crack and doesn't require staining, sealing or painting. Like Trex's decking, the furniture is also "very resistant to food spills, insects, mold, mildew and salt spray, and extreme weather, such as sun, rain, wind, saltwater and snow." Basically, it sounds indestructible! And making use of plastic in this way is definitely a good thing.
