If you've ever stepped foot into Swallowtail in Russian Hill, you've no doubt been impressed with Sheri Sheridan's way with decor. The store's co-owner (who is also an interior designer) opened the doors of her equally stunning Oakland home to Sunset Magazine, and passed along some decorating rules to live by, too...
Sheridan mixes high and low pieces that together create a glamorous space with a comfortable feel. She's got some good tips for saving cash, such as salvaging items and using mis-mixed paint , as well as ways to spend the big bucks (investing in original art, good quality furniture, etc). Read them all here.

I love her store and its a great space, she has a good eye for the unexpected and how to mix it up. The prices are out of my range but always inspiring to visit the shop.
That house has too many little things in it for me, and cold colors. And if that zebra rug is really a dead zebra -- Boooo. (Even if the dog looks very attractive on it... the photographer must have loved that.)
