The design trends of 2012 are checked off and accounted for, so now comes the fun part: watching new ideas and patterns emerge in 2013. If the fashion runways are to be believed (and they probably should), then iridescence is on the loading dock.
It was bound to happen. The pairing of metallics and pastels happened in a big way this past year. Marry the two completely and you get shimmery pale materials that catch the light and produce a spectrum of shades. In a traditional home, this trend might surface as pearly white bathroom tile, or pink tinged mercury glass. Those with a more modern sensibility will embrace holographic foils worthy of a Led Zeppelin laser light show. Just think of the DIY projects!
Here's a sprinkling of items, but something tells me we'll see more soon. Keep your eyes peeled.

Nope. Gonna look dated in ten minutes or so. IMO
Nice in tiny doses; otherwise, it's Easter all the time.
Love the bathroom tile!
Ooh, I LOVE this! Not so much the pastel part, but definitely the iridescence. Years ago, I painted a mirror frame black and sort of scumbled over it with metallic turquoise craft paint. I STILL love it and it's never looked dated. Now I am thinking about what else I could make iridescent....
yeah i don't see that happening except with a select few people... to me it looks like someone is trying to hard..
Ooooohhhhhh, SHINY! ;^)
select pieces? awesome!
I do love the fireworks looking wallpaper and i was very surprised by the glass colored chair. loved! but is it comfortable?
the iridescent bath tile is DIVINE!!!!!!!!
I like mother of pearl and opal, so I love this.
Best thing is #8 - no pillow chop. Otherwise, cheesydescence.
Didnt we already go through this in the 80s? Though I too like the bathroom tile.
Yuck.
Mmm, I just bought tumblers that are iridescent...I love the poop out of them.
Iridescent tiles are pretty cool...but the show-stopper is the fire hydrant wallpaper.
Ditto nene. Much like polkadots. Small doses. And not in each and every room please.
I wouldn't enjoy this as a whole room, but a little bit of shimmer in, say, a bathroom or dressing room with pale teal and white walls would look beautiful and feminine without being OTT. Also, my best friend is getting married soon and we've been planning to make some kind of bunting. That metallic pink leather bunting is PERFECT inspiration, thanks! Her wedding colours are gold, silver, pearl grey and navy/royal blue, so I can imagine strands of gold and silver pleather bunting adding a fantastic shine.
Beautiful and haunting. Certainly not something which I've seen in a home as of yet. The first image brings to mind the "Northern Lights" and all of the imagery and associations which accompany them.
