A loft in Chelsea was recently renovated, and beyond the blond hardwood floors and recessed lighting, the owners got a staircase with a railing constructed with 20,000 Lego bricks. I-Beam Architecture And Design worked with Lego artist Sean Kenney to create the railing.

that staircase is so cool!! reminds me of the million lego pieces my brother had growing up in the 70s. isn't lego sold as kits now that you use to build something specific, kind of like a model? can you still buy individual pieces and create your own designs?
Maplesyrup- if you're in NYC, check out the LEGO store in Rockefeller Center- it's mostly kits for sure, but there are also bins of lego pieces arranged by color-an OCD-er's dream!

Legos can get to you. In California recently, a Silicon Valley executive was arrested for stealing Leo sets from big box stores (he was changing the bar codes out to deeply "discount" the prices) and selling the sets on E-Bay for a tidy profit.
Still, it's a cool staircase.
That staircase in a children's museum would be awesome. In that gorgeous loft, turns me off. I'm also very curious as to how much it cost. Anyway, to each their own.
Not just that. it should be 'peek at' not 'of ;) !
More importantly, how did that pass code (no handrail for one thing)? Is there a Lego specification for structural installs? Did they glue the blocks together? More details would be welcome.
Yeah, I'm wondering about the structural aspect too. I bet the Legos are cladding around a steel rail structure that does meet code.
