Sorry bibliophiles—as fun as a book roller coaster for humans would be, only books can ride this train, which is now up and running at the New York Public Library.

Consisting of 24 separate red cars that can move horizontally and vertically on tracks, the "state-of-the-art book train" transports volumes from NYPL's "newly-expanded storage under Bryant Park to researchers throughout the library." The books travel from the underground stacks to the Rose Main Reading Room (which reopens on October 5) on the third floor in about five minutes.
