It's official. The Wooster street Design Within Reach studio will become one of two Tools for Living stores that will sell the staplers, tableware, pots, pans, surfboards and various home accessories that the company unleashed on its design-loving clientele last year. The furniture is moving to the new Design Within Reach Flagship on Greene Street in a few weeks. Tools for Living will be cash-and-carry (a first for DWR) and open in September. I hope nobody actually buys that tiffin lunch box set for $80! You can find it for less than half (maybe even under $25) that in any Asian market. What a rip-off. DWR is so exasperating.

I got my Tiffin Lunch box at Cost Plus World Market for $9.99 and I LOVE it! :D
I bought a tiffin in India, it was sold based only on the weight of the stainless steel, not the workmanship! It was very inexpensive. I filled it with birdseed and used it for a doorstop (the handle made it perfect for that). So many people coveted that thing!
I have a small tiffin collection but that price is just silly. There is a nice one at link below - I bought one of them and love it, don't use it for lunches though.

Those aren't just a tad large, those are "head out to Home Depot and check out the wooden dowels section". Wow! And she has a special kind of wool to do it with. But I bet you could use rope, the silkier kind of rope (also at Home Depot).
Uh, but I don't know how to knit. Someone try this out and let me know how it works out.
Luckily, I'm not in the market for metal stacking lunch boxes, wooden monkeys, globes (the countries change too often), and giant knitted things. I have a clock. The microwave has a timer and I don't have to stand there and watch it until the sand runs through. And I'm not bored enough to stand around watching sand run through.
Uh, the tape came with it's own dispenser, and I don't use a lot of tape. I don't ever use tape. Why DO I have tape anyway? What do you all use tape for?
I guess I won't have to worry about what they offer or how much it costs if I don't need any of it.

etslee, until design within reach changes their name to a something more appropriate (since, i agree with most everyone that the "within reach" part of the name is a misnomer), the "dwr-bashing" will probably never stop
Within Reach never meant "within budget". It means "Accessible". It was one of the first retailers to offer Herman Miller, Eames, van der Roe, and other high-end design items direct to the public.
